CDRP

Last week, I finally received a reply from Canada, regarding the CDRP.
It took over 2 months for them to reply, & then, much to my surprise,
I was turned down. I won't bore you with all of the boring details, but I will give some info for you to base a reply:
1. Last traffic ticket: 1980; speeding
2. Last chargeable criminal offense: 1976: embezzelment, sentenced to
2-4 yrs; suspended for 3 yrs probation & restitution. Released from
probation after 18 mo., for "good behavior".
3. One(and only)DUI: 1970

My question is this: If I've been going in & out of Canada for over 3
years now, with no problems EVER, why, all of a sudden, am I persona
non grata? God has forgiven me, my wife has forgiven me, etc. Why not
Canada? My God! We are talking about things that happened a quarter of
a century ago!

Now if you had been blowing up buildings and sneaking into Canada and the USA you probably would be OK. I know you can apply for something called a Canadian Pardon which if approved ,the Canadian authorites will forgive you for what happened 20 years ago.I think the process takes about 6 months and I have no idea what it costs. Probably Candian Customs or Immigration Personel could give you advice. Question is if you don!t get the CDRP can you still get in under the old way.I have been approved but havn!t been into Canada in over 15 months and I am not going to deadhead hundreds of miles just to get that card.I understand they have extended the dates to the end of October for the issuance of the CDRP. Good Luck.

Contact Brenda Walls, Enforcement Officer, in Canada at 1-905-354-4692. She will explain what it takes to apply for a Canadian Pardon, and send you the application booklet.

Another way to do it is to call 1-800-874-2652 to contact the Clemency and Pardons Division. Good Luck.

Hey Chaser,
What, if anything, did your expedite carrier have to say about all of this? Do they require this CDRP for employment with them?
Thanks,
Les

A DUI HERE IN THE STATES IS NOT A FELONY, BUT IN cNADA IT IS, AND IF YOU HAVE A FELONY CONVICTION ON YOUR RECORD EVEN 50YRS AGO, YOU CAN'T DRIVE YOUR TRUCK THERE. YOUR EMBEZZELMENT SOUNDS LIKE IT TOO WAS A FELONY AND THAT WILL KEEP YOU OUT AS WELL, HOPE THIS SHEDS SOME LIGHT FOR YA

I was just in Canada last night. Canada SUCKS! just the atmosphere there gives me the creeps. And no I did nothing stupid. I have no criminal record. Just something about Canada that I just can't appreceiate. Man, nothing like letting it all out ;-)

As a Canadian I find this statement very insulting.
Why does Canada "suck" and give you "the creeps"?
I hope you turn the next run to Ontario down.
If you don't like it here, please sat home.
Thank you.

Comments like that are unfiar, especially post 9-11

They would likely mail it to you.

If you go to Canada under an automotive load and clear under
FIRST (Frequent Importers Release System)
you must have your card. Canada Customs will be tightening this up soon.

Downloaded the rehabilitation forms....what a waste..they want $200 up front and state that the fee could go to $1000. Might as well put a terrorist sign in my window and go on in.....

I have never had any trouble getting into or running through Canada. It's a very easy country to run. Even living nearby in Buffalo, when I go there I do feel strange, however. I get my defences up. Don't know why, I just do- maybe it's just knowing what laws apply. Same goes for Canadian drivers when in the USA. When I'm in your country, I know it. I treat Canadian drivers with great respect when I meet them here- which is often. I enjoy Toronto as a small vacation spot, love the Chinatown area. I wish they would just open that dumb border up. All it amounts to is a thing that authority figures use to scare people, and brokers use to make money.
I applied for that border cross thing about a year ago, have not heard a hoot about it since. I think a bunch of the legalities have been tied up since 9/11. They just want to make it tighter.

We sent in the application early this year and got the approval letters a couple three months back. I got in for the mug shot and have my card, the wife just got her mug taken, so she should get her card soon. Just renewed my CDL and it's a tossup which mug shot is better, they both look like some character you'd see in the Post Office. Last time we went thru at Sarnia, the Canadian Customs officer said they had found seven trucks trying to smuggle weapons and/or aliens, so they were checking every truck, real good.

It's understandable that the customs gotta check people in order to try to keep out the bad eggs, but it is a pain for the honest ones.

We rather like to visit Ontario now and then. If you don't act like an obnoxious tourist, you'll get along fine. We stop at an ATM and get Canadian money which we use to pay for small stuff and charge fuel on the plastic. The 34¢ fuel tax credit helps, too. If you consider the exchange rate ($CDN vs. $US), prices ain't too bad. Fact is, it's less to pay the bridge toll with Canadian $$.

HI, I understand your frustration with Canada over past and distant convictions. Please remember this is primarily a money game on the part of the Canadian government. Canada recently announced a movement to legalize marijuana for anyone 16 and older. That should help explain where our friends (????) across the border have their heads at. I read the comments from other drivers and have to admit that at LEAST once every run to Canada I overhear anti-American sentiment. I have traveled around the world and with the exception of China, I have never encountered more Barney Fife type law enforcement officals than in Canada. I know it will never happen (almighty dollar and all) but it would be a beautiful thing if drivers stuck together (since freight companys won't) and started to REFUSE Canadian runs. These are just some random thoughts (outlawed in Canada HAHA) on this issue. Thanks and good luck EH? }>

RE: Canada Knocking

I'm sure if the good ole USA was being attacked the same way Canada is on this forum, several of you would rise in it's defense.
I seem to be the only Canadian left here, so I must get on my High Horse again and rush to my country's defense.
(Note to Teacel.......THIS TIME I could come down like a CB Rambo)
This latest message from Thunderhorse is just replete with idiotic statements......
Here goes.....
Thunderhorse said:
>HI, I understand your frustration with Canada over past and
>distant convictions. Please remember this is primarily a
>money game on the part of the Canadian government.
RobA replies
This is NOT a "money game" on the part of the Canadian Governemnt.
The fees are to cover the costs involved.

Then Thunderhorse said:
Canada
>recently announced a movement to legalize marijuana for
>anyone 16 and older. That should help explain where our
>friends (????) across the border have their heads at.
RobA then replies:
This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the topic under discussion.
This was merely a report making the suggestion to decriminalize the simple possession of marijuana. I can't see that the "good ole USA" is winning their WAR ON DRUGS.
THEN Thunderhorse mutters:
I read
>the comments from other drivers and have to admit that at
>LEAST once every run to Canada I overhear anti-American
>sentiment.
RobA replies:
@@Sorry Thunderfart(I mean horse), with your attitude I'm not suprised that you hear anti-Americanisms. We Canadians have a name for your types; "Dumb F**kin' Yanks" .You aren't in the States when you are here, and we are entitled to our opinions.

Thunderhorse then makes a wild accusation:
I have traveled around the world and with the
>exception of China, I have never encountered more Barney
>Fife type law enforcement officals than in Canada.
RobA. says
@@That's a major generalization, but I've seen my share down there, but never noticed 'em here.
Thunderation concludes by wishing:
I know it
>will never happen (almighty dollar and all) but it would be
>a beautiful thing if drivers stuck together (since freight
>companys won't) and started to REFUSE Canadian runs.
RobA finds something he can agree with:
Hey, Why not.......NOBODY's forcing you to come up here. If you don't like it here, please stay home!
There are Canadian expediters who can cover the loads.
Thunders: These
>are just some random thoughts (outlawed in Canada HAHA) on
>this issue. Thanks and good luck EH? }>
RobA's
Thoughts are not outlawed in Canada. I don't see much freedom of thought down in the "good ole USA" , especially after 9/11/01

Sorry, but I get tired of reading all the dumb comments people have to make about Canada.
I thought we were friends as well as neighbours, but I guess I'm wrong on that.
RobA.

RE: Canada Knocking

See what i mean???????? please stick to curling and socialist causes and leave the driving to professionals. Nice Canadian vulgarity though, EH. No hard feelings though and thanks for your support of the gulf war by sending a dozen soldiers.Next time maybe the Canadian government will allow them to carry ammunition.;-)

Hey, what's with all the fighting!? In the 13 yrs. that I drove, I went into canada a lot. A few times I got hasseled at customs, but for the most part I acted and treated evryone with respect, and was treated nice. Most of the time I had more problems with the US side customs. I think there are good men/women and bad ones working the boarder, so just be yourself and don't drive with an adittude and you should be ok. I don't drive now, but I do own 5 trucks and the guys I have if they say they don't want to go uo north for a while, thats ok with me, but I tell them they can have a break, but they will have to go up there from time to time, since there is a lot of good freight comming out and we all need the money. Be safe, and try to smile:D

I was just informed by Tri-State that my misdeameanor charges from 1988 would prevent me from driving in Canada, thus preventing me from being employed by them. Open container, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass. I spent a week in jail and got on with my life. Lesson learned. After all, I was only 21 years old, just another indescretion of youth. Now nearly 15 years later it's come back to haunt me. I was referred to Pardon Services who agreed that I would need a minister's permit. $630 and it will take 2-3 months to get. Available in 3 easy payments: Month 1- $100; Month 2- $400; Month 3- $130. That's great except I quit my job last week in order to get some things done around the house before heading out on the truck. Now, why can't these carriers hire a person as a USA only driver and give them a year to obtain these permits and pardons. I may miss out on a few loads, but I can't see how it would affect the service to the customer. I have been into Canada on a truck before and the issue never came up. I imagine 9/11/01 has alot to do with the stricter rules, but being the cynical type that I am, I also think money is the motivating factor. I'm not out to upset anybody, I just needed to get this off my chest.
Anybody want to give a reformed good ole boy a break? I'm job hunting again. Class "C" cdl (no airbrakes) and clean MVR. 6 1/2 years local delivery (cargo van/"C" unit) experience. Send me a message.
