I could not help but read the into my own post and the CB comment.

Before entering into this I thought it would be great to keep one informed and a great way to meet new people.

How wrong I was, do you expierence the same thing I have?

#1 try to carry on an intellegent conversation and have what happen? Idiots chimming in with stupid comments cause they are to dumb to listen, (proabably carried over from Grammer School or Academey as they are called toady) with a smart alex response to just stir crap. Nothing intellegent to add just a crap comment to start an argument.

#2 come up on accident, and someones always gona ask what lane. OK me to thats me asking, why? Why because I cannot stand keeping this negative box in my truck every driving moment and now I am asking and being treated as if I am criminal cause I cannot stand the negativity that constantly comes over the airwaves. Or my favorite comment is from some poop stirrer (I dont have any Panties on) No kidding your wearing underwear cause your a guy not a girl girls wear panties while guys where underwear. So yeah your right and niehter am I wearing panties so whats the point other than to stir crap?

#3 I love the arguments (just kidding) but one guy threatening to beat the other up. Whens the last time you saw two trucks pull over and duke it out? My answer is 0 cause there wimps that talk this talk on the radio.

I view the CB as a tool, one to let other drivers come over on long stretches of highway and to let others know if they have a very nice truck that it is nice and to aide another driver into a parking spot when I can.

Other than that I find it to be the most negative tool I have ever owned.

I have tried leaving mine on more lately with varying results. Most of the time I can't leave it on very long for all the reasons you stated and the ones that think the microphone is an invitation to show off thier singing talents or let us all listen to thier favorite music. Every once in a while you will catch a semi intelligent conversation or at least semi interesting but it is rare. I wish it were a tool that we could utilze too. Be a nice way to stay alert in the wee hours.

Yep yep I know what you all mean I have been in trucking for going on 13 years and even though that is not that long back when I started you used to get smokey reports you would ask the opisite way whats behind them and they would come back and tell you but now a bunch of punks wanting to try and prove there manhood by being rude crude and obnoxious sometimes you get a good conversation going but seems like when you do sooner or later someone comes along and rouins it.

Unfortunately there are people who out of sheer boredom and their own desire to make others as miserable as they are, engage in 's-stirring'. I too use the CB as a tool and most tools with electrical power have an on/off switch. Make things easy on yourself, choose not to be drawn into the pit of krap and exercise the ability to manipulate said switch. And always turn it off in truck stops, ESPECIALLY when backing into a spot, unless of course you want to listen to all the krap. I flip it on when approaching an accident, a storm, or rolling into a scale house. Otherwise the switch is OFF.
That's just me, some people dig the conflict.

I've had a CB since 1975 and have seen it evolve (or is it devolve?) into what it is now. It's still a great tool, but you just have to pick and choose when to have it on and off these days. I usually turn it off or way down when approaching a truck stop. You can listen only so many times to the questions concerning the location of the wild women, and who does and does not have their panties on, who's donkey is about to be kicked, how the end of days is upon us, and the inevitable plea for the answer to why can't everyone just get along.

It's a good tool for accidents and other snarls you are gonna come across. Gators, hazards on the shoulder, grazing deer, unexpected bumps and potholes, all kinds of stuff. You can quickly discern the old timers from the supertruckers. I've had many a pleasant conversation on late night drives on the 650 mile stretch between EL Paso and Dallas, across northern Nevada and Kansas and the Dakotas.

Sometimes it can be some of the best entertainment going. The drive-by azz-whoopin's are hilarious (although I did witness one at a rest area that got way too real once).

I love the ones who ask for a radio check, someone gives him one, and he immediately asked for a radio check, someone gives him one, and he immediately asks for a radio check, and someone, well, it can go on for 20 or 30 minutes.

I like to catch a couple of Russians or French Canadians and tell them that, hey, you're in America now. Speak Spanish.

And if you ever get really bored with the mindless, routine chatter, just pretend you're listening to the soundtrack of Brokeback Mountain.

Slide that right on in here.
You got it there, big truck.
That's a pretty Pete.
Come on, JB. Come on, come one, come on!
I think I got a bad hose. Must have froze up on me.
Are you still back there?
Hurry up. Get up and stand on it!
Damnit boy!
'preciate it...
...anytime
I ain't got no panties on...
Where's the Screamin' Beacon?!

I also listen to XM Radio a lot. Just have to pick and choose. ;)

I turn on the CB maybe 5 minutes a week at most. I use my ham radio if I want to have a conversation with someone. The people on ham radio have IQ's that are triple digit and vocabularies greater than a dozen swear words. I've been caught in a bad traffic situation annually that I might have missed if I subjected myself to the idiocies of CB for hundreds of hours a year but it isn't worth it.

I always have my c.b. on with the volume low and the squelch turned up. If I hear alot of chatter I will tune in and listen. When you are stopped in traffic due to road construction or an accident it's a little late to turn on the c.b. I have also received excellent local directions from other drivers and base stations.

Sure there is alot of garbage on channel 19. But with a little selective listening and tuning it just might save you some time.

Also if you want to carry on a somewhat private conversation with another driver take it to another channel. Usually nobody will bother you on a quite channel.

Depends on where you are and where you're listening to the CB... big cities generally bring big idiots, as do truck stops.

You can count on hearing CB chatter at a larger and/or more well known truck stop than just a regular rest area or exit.

CB's on at nite time, in low traffic, esp. past midnite to 2 AM is when you can get a good conversation... Once it hits 5 or 6 AM - forget it, switch channels or turn up the squelch. After rush hour, say past 9 to 10 am it generally calms down. Then it's fired back up in the afternoon into the nite as drivers start to turn in to park.

I was certainly glad i had mine on in Montreal...I had a hard time finding the cons due to everything being in French. I ask over the CB for some local info and a guy on a base station actually guided us in turn by turn for the next 8 miles...he even went so far as to get another buddy of his on his cb when the 1st guy started losing contact with me!
He said they were former truckers and spent several hours per day helping out-of-towners find their way.
Remember that when and if you go up there!

when i got my cb you needed a liscense, they did away with the liscenses, now we have the silly channel, this is why most company drivers use their own channel
I personally use this as a tool, nothing like finding a wreck you could of avoided
the best way to keep your sanitty is,turn your rf gain so you only hear about a mile away, the squelch is fine, but the rf is better, this will also nock out the bleed over from other channels
and when your upset with idiots out there,if you have one of these high dollar radios, you can fight fire with fire, just turn on the roger beep, turn up the echo,or as I do,turn up my xm radio,I listen to 5,and 171,get some of my nascar on 144,but I will be listening to the races on my sirrius radio
