CB Radios

I bought a very nice CB for my van. I also bought a very nice antennae. I had the CB mounted on a shelf that is mounted above the windshield. I didn't have the antennae hooked up yet because it required soldering of the end terminal Thanks to the Deeetroit roads, the shelf bracket broke, the CB was in my lap. I put the CB in one of my storage tubs, and took the shelf off and threw it away. It couldn't be welded. Sometime in the next day or two, Goodwill is going to get a very nice CB and antennae. They are also going to get a whole bunch of load straps.

Prof, if you had a Shelf-It brand overhead shelf I believe a cb radio is to heavy. I have a shelf-It and love it. It holds my glasses, gauges, and assorted light weight stuff. But my radio is mounted to the roof.

Before you go to the Goodwill, please pm me with radio make and model. I may be interested in buying it.

Hi, Moot.

OUCH!!! Went to Goodwill today. Read your post this eve. Sorry. Had I have known earlier, I would have given it to you. A Cobra. I think it was the Nightstalker. Not sure. Firestick antennae. There's a nice CB, antennae, and a bunch of load straps at the Goodwill at Anderson, IN.

Oh well! Maybe somebody reading this will swing through Anderson and get a good deal. I made a couple of trips from St. Paul to Anderson hauling automotive parts into Carter Trucking. Carter consolidated the shipment with others and hauled it to Loredo where it eventually made its way into Mexico. Kind of a round-about way.

Enjoy your new life and stay active with E.O.!

My CB stays on all the time. I've had one since 1972 in every truck I've driven and even carry a spare radio just in case one quits working.
I strongly consider my radio a piece of safety equipment! SHAME on all of you who will see traffic stopping then turn your CB on and start asking What lane do I need to be in? or Whats the problem? or any other BS questions for that matter! Had you had your safety equipment turned on then you would already know the answers.

Pappy, I'm glad you know what works for you but I won't force myself to endure the loads of garbage 99 & 44/100 % of the time just in case there's something to hear. Yes, that means I get caught in the jams sometimes and have to turn it on and ask, but I don't think that's a shame on me thing. I just won't (<-- pretend it says can't but any time you see can't substitute won't because that's what the person really means) have it intruding in the background. If it's up enough to get the reports it's up enough to intrude on everything else. If it's down enough to not intrude on the satellite radio or phone or whatever it's down enough you can't hear it. For some of us it's a necessary evil. For others it's a great and enjoyable thing. I'll stick with my ham radios for radio fun and keep the cb for forced usage.

Thank you Pappy! I agree with you 100%. A c.b. radio is a safety item and a tax deduction. Over the years I have developed a system that allows me to listen to music and or books on c.d. and still have an ear to the road. I can not count how many times the c.b. has saved me from avoiding constuction delays, accident delays or other road problems. I use my cruise control, keep my speed within legal limits, so bear reports of are no concern to me. But I still like to Know what lies ahead. Its kinda like an astrologist, but without the long fingernails and other creepy stuff.
