I am looking to get into the expediting buisness does anyone know of any carriers that have alot of east coast freight,i live in Philadelphia,Pa...Thanks Tim
I suspect any of the carriers listed on the right hand side of our home page would be interested in your anticipated size of truck (we call it a D unit) Start with FedEx Custom Critical and work your way down the list until you find a carrier that fits your desires.
We assume you already have a class A CDL, If not, you'll need a class B with haz mat end for most carriers. While you're building, you might consider a lift gate and perhaps a reefer box to maximize your earning potential.
Thanks for the info,Terryandrene, yes i have a class a with hazmat,i want to start out running solo, but do not want to get with a company that can not get me back this way once in awhile....thanks again...Tim
Once they approve me, I'll make the final determination as to whether I'll switch carriers. I have two trucks and will switch one of them if it appears as though I can generate a reasonable net income running locally.
Just up the road from your home town is Bordentown, NJ. There is a Petro truck stop there with a large bobtail lot that is a favorite stopping place for expediters. Consider going there to chat with some of them about freight in your area. We frequently see FedEx CC (by far the most) and Landstar units there, along with a smattering of others. We consider it a good freight area and seldom wait there long for loads.
