Cargo van's out of Indianapolis?

Hello All,

New guy here. I have a chance to buy a 2001 Chevy express, 1500, 90,000 miles, at a great price. Is there a demand for this type of van? I've been thinking of the expediting business for some time now and thought this might be the time. I live in the Indianapolis area and am looking for a company that may have dedicated runs out of Indy.
I have 15yrs experience driving this type of vehicle, about 1,200 miles a week.(If that matters.)
Any help please.

Thanks, Scott

My first van was an '89 chev 1500 and I tore it up in a year and a half. This so-called 1/2 ton van can't handle the rigors of the typical expedite company's freight. You just can't safely carry the 2000+ pounds you'll need to carry to operate profitably with OTR expedite.

My first van was a 1997 Ford E250 (3/4 ton) extended, with a small V-6. I put about 98,000 on it the first year. I ran that van about another year, before I bought a used 2001 Chevy 3500 (1 ton) extended. I could'nt believe how well the Chevy handled an 1800# load vs the way my old Ford drove. I know there's many others out there that have been in the business alot longer then me, and they may have much better advice, but I wouldn't consider using anything less then a 1 ton cargo van to expedite.

I'm not a van guy but did look into them and all the research I did indicated the 3500 is the way to go with the 2500 being acceptable but sometimes marginal and a 1500 being just too light to do the job. Unless this 1500 you found is at such a ridiculously low price you could throw it away in a year or so when it's beat to death and worn out I'd keep looking for a 3500. Good luck in whatever you do.
