Cargo Vanning in Sub-Zero Weather

Leaks. Every vehicle has a leak or two.

About insulation: I'm using 3/4" foam insulation board for the job. Next time I'll use 1 1/2" board, it doesn't weigh appreciably more but the R-value increase is significant. As it is, when I'm standing down for a bit the Big Buddy has been handling the heat job OK. One burner only if it's above 10F, two burners may be necessary below zero F.

Isn't that a combustion heater? Propane? Isn't there a CO concern?

the unit has a low oxygen sensor...very sensitive it is...the unit will shutoff...you have to leave a window open to compensate.....that is where you lose some of the BTU's of the unit...and the inside of vehicle will condensate...frost on every exposed steel part and window....I dealt with propane for many years...what an idiot I was.....should have gotten the Espar from the gitgo...

oh I have about 3-4 big buddies...all the same problem excess oil from propane blocking the fuel lines.....that and about 3 Coleman heaters...

That's insane.

and some will lead you to believe waking at below 32 temps is ok....because they have a -40 sleeping bag and a small cheap heater....Why? is my question....I WAS of that thinking...but I realized that IF I were a long term victim of this trade I might as well be "committed" to it.....LOL

What people have to remember is...we are out here LIVING not CAMPING..spend some $$$ ..make it as comfortable as humanly possible..a Arctic sleeping bag is NOT living ...that's camping..you have to spend $$$$ to make $$$$

Been using the big buddy for 6 years now...you won't get cold with one...yes ..close your vehicle up tight as drum..you probably won't wake up...I have always cracked the front windows 2" and I'm still here..

I ran a daycab 48 states for about 250,000 miles.
I put an espar style heater in that so
A) it'd start
B) it'd be warm
When I left my motel room.

People thought I was nuts.

I'll take every comfort I can afford.

There are a lot of successful drivers out here using article bags. I prefer comfort but have been that route before.

I'm the guy with the -40 degree sleeping bag, well insulated van and a cheap heater I use on my Honda generator, with a BigBuddy for the super cold. Works for me! I agree, Espar is the way to go, but do not want to put the investment into this particular van. Maybe next year. But until then I am snug as a bug in a rug, having my best year by far and making good $$$

I think I was of the same mindset...I wasn't going to put an expensive unit into a van that was going bye-bye's....

If it works for you....that is all that matters.... as Alice would say....Mel, Kiss my grits! LOL

I pretty much have the same setup...which did not cost a lot...but to throw a sleeping on the floor is crazy..
