cargo claims

Even with sl/c I'll be able to take a quick photo when closing the doors. It won't be as good as a sequence as each row is loaded but better than nothing. The sl/c was emphasized in class as your best protection in that case. I realize what's said in class and what really happens could be different however as emphatically as it was mentioned several different times I'm pretty confidant they are not going to charge the contractor with a claim unless it's truly warranted.

I carry both digital and 35mm with me at all times if i see something not right i take a digital pic on the spot and send it to the company. Then when i deliver the load i retake a pitcher and put it on a disk and give the cons a copy of both pictures. I also nevfer leave the shipper with something not looking right i make the shipper note it on the BOL if they refuse i call the company and tell them that if they can't get the shipper to sign for the ****age then they must accept responciblity forany claim or it doesnt go with me. 22 Years and i haven't ever had a claim fall back on to me

I was going to post this in the 'backhauls' thread, but that was not accessible to me, and my question applies here as well.

What would happen in a case where the drivers took a backhaul, or whatever load, and without being told in advance, they were expected to unload it upon arrival at the consignee.

If the drivers obliged, without knowing of the laws which Scuba stated in the other thread, resulting in damage to the freight caused by the driver for whatever reason, what happens then?

The driver becomes SOL and responsible for a cargo claim?

When damaged goods are loaded on the truck, the fork lift driver often disappears real fast.
Happened to me twice.

#1 At JFK a skid was loaded soaking wet on the bottom. Unable to locate the loader I asked for the supervisor in charge. He summoned the F/L driver and told him to sign off on the damage I noted. Driver whined "but we will get a damage claim". Boss said "that's OK its what we have to do. Dispatch was notified, and appropriate notes were put in activity.

#2 At GM a work bench was being loaded. F/L pushed in on. The front legs folded under, and front of bench collapsed on the truck floor. F/L speed away at warp speed. Again off goes I in search of a Foreman. Results same as scenario #1.

P.S. I am nearing 20 years with FECC/Roberts with never a claim. As mentioned before. DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT.
