Cap & Trade

Being a professional lurker I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I am sure someone will relocate it if it's wrong. Tomorrow congress may vote on the cap and trade bill ,which in a nut shell requires utilities and other environmental polluters to buy credits from the government to keep operating. Now I am not anti environment or pro utility companies but in the end this could severely hurt our industry.
If it cost more to make electricity then it cost more to refine fuel and make products, which in these days of slow economy mean less products to move which means less work for us all .It will also mean you electric bill at home will rise. So knowing that as expediters we are a large group I ask all of you to contact you representative and ask that he or she vote against this tax because we just plain can't afford the log term affects that it will cause. If your not familiar with the bill just google Cap and trade and learn about it. I'm not even sure what the direct effects will be on us as diesel user but I am sure it will not be good either. But I do know the indirect effects will hurt us all.
Thanks for the platform and I shall return to the shadows now, I just figured I'd ask for the help.

Biggest tax hike in history?

You are kidding me?

It is not that you should worry about, it is the direct affect to our country and this profession.

House Democrats win key test vote on climate bill

Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Democrats narrowly won a key test vote Friday on sweeping legislation to combat global warming and usher in a new era of cleaner energy. Republicans said the bill included "the largest tax increase in American history."
The vote was 217-205 to advance the White House-backed legislation to the floor, and 30 Democrats defected, a reflection of the controversy the bill sparked....

It passed the House. The bill now has to go to the Senate. Might be more difficult to get 60 votes in the Senate. Time to call your Senator and tell him/her what you think about the bill.

Yeah right, my Senators? Let's see, Carl (Marx) Levin and Debbie Stab them now. I will voice my opinion to them but it will be a total waste of time.

What absolutely amazes me is the number of companies that are backing this, it is not just a GE thing.

So far we have Ford and Dow here in Michigan supporting it. Even the UAW has gotten into the act.

As much as I want to see the right things pass through our congress, this isn't one of them.

People like Doug and Andy who have been just bashing Bush and big business don't see that Obama and big business are in bed with each other. If this was properly done, companies like Dupont and GE would not have a hand in it but rather a number of environmental scientist and economist would.

Do we really want to become a corporative state?

Sheeple are sheeple, Greg. They BELIEVE Obama, a Chicago machine polition and they believe him!! I cannot say much for their ability to think if they can believe a politition. Wait till they get put out of business by this or taxed beyond the ability to pay their taxes, bet they blame Bush then too.:(

I'm waiting for them to support this bill.

I know that after reading two synopsis that it isn't good for the little guy. The thing that floors me is the idea that this will spur growth in manufacturing and service sectors, the opposite will happen because of the cost of doing business will go up due to the increase of energy cost.

Even the ag industry is going to hurt unless the farmer produces corn for ethanol which is a bigger polluter than most other industry. The farmers, like the small business owners should be screaming about this.

Trucking will suffer, it will be a thing of the past to drive that 2006 truck down the road freely, the big companies who own the trucks will work out some arrangement with the new GE/Government system where they can take advantage of tax 'breaks' and grants to up grade but the independents and the small truck owning carriers will fall.

That IS the ideas of this bill. TO drive out independent owner operators. Like I said before the election, the time is coming very soon that if you want to drive truck for a living you will be working for a large trucking company that is controlled and or run by the government AND be FORCED to join the Teamsters. I was told I was crazy and paraniod. The left in general is opposed to small business owners of any type. Those kind of people are just far to difficult for them to control. Control of the People is their ultimate goal and it seems that large numbers are willing to be lead. Being lead is a waste of human life. I just cannot understand how anyone could be so lazy as to not want to control their own destiny. We must be de-evolving. :(

They must be on a load. They had better remember what that was like, this bill will kill their business as well.

I don't know about anyone else. I for one, cannot and will not even try to adapt to this "Brave New World" The "heck" with them. I cannot be ruled. I am far too independent and wish to die a free man. That is NOT open for debate. I have NEVER been a follower and I am WAY too old to become that lazy and weak minded. I will just fight it tooth and nail. Defiant to the end.

It is not a fine day when you learn that our open and transparent EPA recently quashed a report that would have at the very least caused those in Congress to ponder the underpinnings of Cap and Trade. From Powerline, here's the article with emails from one of the administrators of the EPA:

June 28, 2009 Posted by John at 7:28 AM

The Competitive Enterprise Institute has obtained an EPA study of the "endangerment" to human well-being ostensibly caused by carbon dioxide emissions, together with a set of EPA emails indicating that the study, which concludes that carbon dioxide is not a significant cause of climate change, was suppressed by the EPA for political reasons.

You can read the comments that the CEI submitted to the EPA on EPA's proposed endangerment finding here, along with the emails. The censored report, by Alan Carlin and John Davidson, is here.

In their report, Carlin and Davidson point out that the EPA has not done its own evaluation of the global warming theory. Rather, it has relied on analyses by others, mostly the U.N.'s IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report. That report, however, was a political document, not a scientific one. Knowing that current scientific research disproves the anthropogenic global warming theory, the U.N. ordered that no recent research be considered in the IPCC report. This is a scandal of which too few people are aware. As science, the U.N. report is a bad joke.

Carlin and Davidson go on to recite the scientific work that shows rather clearly that human activity is a minor factor, at most, in climate change--which has, of course, been occurring from the beginning of Earth's history to the present. Their report is a useful summary of the evidence for those who are not familiar with it.

If the Obama administration gets its way, Americans will not become aware of the scientific evidence: Obama's EPA suppressed the Carlin/Davidson report and tried to keep it secret for political reasons. The emails obtained by the CEI are revealing. Here, the two scientists' superior declines to make their report public because "the administration has decided to move forward on endangerment." Click to enlarge:

Here, Carlin and Davidson are ordered not to communicate to the public their conclusion that the global warming theory is bunk:

Global warming zealots are a bit like Iran's mullahs. They are fanatically devoted to a series of false propositions. Unable to win an open scientific debate, they consistently resort to bullying and brute force to suppress their opposition. Once again, we see the Obama administration taking the lead in this regard, putting political ideology above scientific truth and demanding that all others do likewise.

You are Not surprised are you? This is NOT about the environment. It is about the destruction of the industrial base of the U.S. to render us impotent AND to have TOTAL control of the People. These people do NOT believe that the People should control the government. They believe the opposite. They BELEIVE that the people are NOT able to be free and ONLY they can SAVE the people from their inablilities. That sounds like a god complex to me. VERY SICK. We MUST take back OUR LEGAL control of the government in 2010 or I fear that all is lost. :(
