If healthcare in Canada is so great, why are Canadians getting serviced here??

Canadians visit U.S. to get health care | Detroit Free Press | Freep.com

Did you even read the article? It shows how WELL the Canadian system actually works....

some samples...

Michael Vujovich, 61, of Windsor was taken to Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital for an angioplasty procedure after he went to a Windsor hospital in April. Vujovich said the U.S. backup doesn't show a gap in Canada's system, but shows how it works.

"I go to the hospital in Windsor and two hours later, I'm done having angioplasty in Detroit," he said. His $38,000 bill was covered by the Ontario health ministry.

The agreements show how a country with a national care system -- a proposal not part of the health care changes under discussion in Congress -- copes with demand for care with U.S. partnerships, rather than building new facilities.

Canada, for example, has waiting times for bariatric procedures to combat obesity that can stretch to more than five years, according to a June report in the Canadian Journal of Surgery.

As a result, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in April designated 13 U.S. hospitals, including five in Michigan and one more with a tentative designation, to perform bariatric surgery for Canadians.

Yea that's all good and well OVM, but don't you think that the Canadians should start raising a stink on the fact that their back up will go completely away under our present administration?

This was my thinking. They are unable to provide care for everyone so they farm it out to us. Who would we farm out our overflow to?

No..Not unable...Think Money..thats all it is all about MONEY...Why invest in their own machines when there is an over-capacity just a few miles away...besides why complain? It puts money in American pockets and employs Americans...this is good yes? It works for them and works for Detroit and Buffalo...

It's not a complaint. This story doesn't say it's about money.
It says it's about having to wait for treatment in Canada.
The Canadian system has been touted as a model for successful nationalized medicine. If it depends on someone else for care, it doesn't seem to me to be that great.

And this where the rubber meets the road...

If Canada has issues just keeping up to the needs of just 30 million people how the heck is Obana Care going to organize and take care of some 320 million people....

I swear if the government took over care of the Mojave desert there would be a sand shortage within 3 years!!

Health Care should be left in the hands of the healthcare professionals NOT politicians....

The Canuck system works because people can go to the U.S. for treatment? That's some radical spin there, OVM...

Healthcare is a business....why invest a whoop of money when there is un-used capacity sitting 80 miles away? That doesn't make good business sense...

The British system is FAR worse than Canada's. LONG waiting lists to insure that FEW people get things like knee or hip replacements. Almost NO one over the age of 60 gets that sort of thing OR even treatment for cancer. Just make them comfortable and let them DIE!! Barry LOVES the British plan. It is his goal.

In Canada or England? That sort of thing on a person of that age in England is VERY rare. Waiting list for those things are in the 18 to 20 year range. Keep in mind, Barry does NOT want a Canadian style system, his ultimate goal is a single pay British style. Far different and far less effecient.

Canada..Joe my grandmother got hip replacement at 72...Canada doesn't have death squads like OBana is hinting at...

Joe is it true? My wife says American men suffer from a type of penis envy in their politics...when someone has something better then Americans they don't-can't believe it and proceed to pick it apart...till it is the same size as theirs or smaller...*LOL*

VERY FUNNY!! NO, it is VERY true. Their system is NOT good at all. Just as Mrs. Layoutshooter sometime. Shoot I once had to do a BADDY to get my son looked at over there.

He was about 8 months old, high fever, and crying non-stop. We tried EVERYTHING we for 2 days. I took him to the Drs. and Mrs. Layoutshooter stayed with the oldest boy.

I explained to the nurse what was going on and she informed me that I was just another "Silly American" with what was most likely my first child and was "panicing" like most Americans do and she would NOT allow me to bother the DR. with something that silly. I saw RED!!! She was threating my sons life!! I grabbed her and THREW her against a wall, got my forearm tight under her chin and PRESSED HARD. I Explained that I was GOING to either see the DR or KILL her and THEN see the DR!! I told her she could take her pick. She called the DR in. Smart move on her part.

When the DR. looked at my son he put him in the hospital for 4 days. VERY bad strep infection. DANG GUM government health care sucks!!!

That is the second reference I have seen you make about violence toward women BY YOU. If what you are saying here is true, you have a problem dude...seriously. Whatever the reason, there is absolutely no excuse for it... If it's true you can cram all that BS about integrity and honor and everything else you constantly babble and cram it up your behind.

SECOND? I WAS protecting my SON!! IF you cannot understand that is WHAT a MAN does when a family member life is threatend then I feel sorry for you. That nurse? was NOT going to allow my soon to been seen by that doctor. That IS how the British National Health system works. NO ONE was going to prevent my son from being seen. I would have put a male nurse on the wall as well. HOW DARE you suggest that I have a problem with women!! I only have a problem with people that would rather see my SON DIE than allow him to see a DR. He had a 104.7 fever and she said I was NOT going to see a DR. WHAT would you do? BEG? I did not have time to play nice, I don't play nice when family is involved. I took action. MY son WAS that sick. He WAS admitted on the spot as soon as the DR seen him. NO ONE was going to prevent my son from getting the care needed.

What OTHER reference to violence against women? You are way out there on this one.
