I think some of you did not understand my question. All I wanted was some help, because it was my first time going that deep into Canada. I feel that shoulp be one of the purposes of this forum.
I do not remember saying one bad thing about Canada. One of my best freinds lives in Hamilton. A proper response to my request should have probably been "Exchange some money at the border, keep filled up, and watch out for the moose".
I do apoligize for getting the province confused, but I pretty much said I was not an expert on Canada. Again, i had an amazing trip that I will never forget. I just hope you Canadians can get over your bitterness towards the USA, because we do not have these feelings towards Canada. I do not think an invasion is close.

Wild Bill: Thanks for that. As you probably know, that commercial has caused a fire storm of controversy up here, and has divided opinion on the editorial pages like nothing else in recent memory. As is the case in all situations that bring out strong emotions, there are solidly held views on both sides of the argument. My position is that we, as Canadians, have for too long, been regarded by Americans, in general, as meek, quiet, and mousey folks, who were never expected to have a opinion at all. Well, guess what, we have taken a page from the "Merican hand book and are now going to be just as "Loud and Proud " as the people to the south.

My original point to Mustang was to try to find out as much information as he could get before heading out to Newfoundland. In reading his comments after he had returned, I think he got a real eye-opener, and now has a much better grasp of just how huge my country is. He also makes a good point about the MOOSE!! In NFLD, they are referred to as Newfie speed bumps. If you hit one, you won't ever speed again, and you will likely get a few bumps on ya.....Ha.

Again, thanks for providing a balanced, informed view, and my condolences about Milton, and the 5th wheel. I live a few klicks east of it, and it does not give a very good impression, does it?

RE: that guy with inferiority complex in Canada...

roadgirl: A few points in rebuttal of your mis-guided last missive.
Point one: You use the term socialist, as if it were some how a bad thing. Go ahead and tell me the difference between socialism, and communisim. There is an old joke that fits in here. " What is the difference between professors at Berkely in California, and the Professors at Moscow University?" The difference is that that the Berkely profs think communisim is great, while the ones in Moscow KNOW it isn't, because they have lived under it all their lives. And my point is..... You may have been to Canada a few times, BUT, I live here. So who is the more knowledgeable on the subject? Not you..

As for the grain crops in the west. I don't know where you get so many things wrong, but according to Statistics Canada, our crops are sold world wide, a fair prices. As for the courses taught in our colleges, and Universities, I can't remember ever seeing one called "spy on your neighbour" but I do recall seeing a big poster at US Customs about their reward program called " help us catch smugglers, call 1 800...." guess that doesn't count, does it?

Please try to understand this small point I am going to raise here. The sacred "right" to bear arms does not now, nor has it ever, existed in Canada. We have never, repeat, never needed it! We do not see our government as a bad buch who are trying to hurt us. That point of view, with it's inherent paranoia, is wholely American, in nature. Your portrayal of our society is decidedly slanted, but of course, we here are used to that, and we laugh about it daily.

Please understand this: We want the same level of respect, and understanding, that you want from us. Remember that we are a seperate, soverign country, not "just like you" and we are the ones who decided a long time ago that we didn't want to be a republic. Read some Canadian history, if you can find any books in your zenophobic local Barnes and Noble. ( I spent 2 days in New Jersey this week waiting for a load, went to 3 Barnes and Noble stores, and for fun asked for ANY books on Canada. There was only one, an out of date Fodors guide to Toronto, published in 1996!!!) There were lots of books about other countries that have a hell of a lot less conection to the USA...guess that sums it all up, doesn't it?

What the he-- is going on here?Just got home from a hard 3 weeks out with good miles and $ and se all of this BS about Canada and the US. For those who don!t know him Jim Bunting is a nice guy who like all of us is attempting to earn a living in the expediting industry.Canada has rules, the US has rules and I am sure Bulgaria has rules that are different from what we know and like,So lighten up and give the respective countries their
due and lets all get along.Politicans in the US and Canada and Mexico etc are all out for one thing,to keep themselves in office. The US is not perfect and neither is any other Country.I have been all over Canada and frankly feel safer there than in many areas of the US,but what it boils down to is thast a certain percentage of the population anywher is just plain evil. The US has a larger population so has a higher amount of evil folks..Canada has great hockey teams, great secnery good safe cities and as MY FRIEND JIM BUNTING can attest to GREAT BEER..lets all relax out here especially you Toadgirl..

Now I know why Jim is the way he is. With an attitude like that, I am sure he gets pulled over for complete inspection more often than the rest, when entering the U.S. Hey Jimbo, take a pill, and Troadgirl was right on. I'm over the road and a farmer in the great northwest (Manitoba) and she hit the subject matter dead on. You seem to really have that inferiority complex in high gear these days. So what company are you jumping to now? Get a grip and a new life.

Rich, If you read the orignal post from Mustang he/she, I don't know which, was simply asking for the procedure in Canada for his size of vehicle. Jim responded with a completly uncalled for tirade about how we Americans think that
Canadians are inferiour and how we are aggresive toward the canadians and continued to give a complete history lesson which was not needed or wanted, at least in that situation. I stated earlier that a polictial forum is fine in it's place but this simple request for information was not the time or place for it, and as a staff member in a forum that has as one of it's objectives to give good advice then Jim was way out of line and should apolgise for that, NOT for his views or his beliefs, but for the fact that he had no right in degrading Mustang for asking a very proper question.
