Campgrounds and CMV's

Does anyone use campgrounds for layovers?
Are commercial motor vehicles allowed in them?
I thought it might be nice to try and find one that has a lake for fishing and swimming and some BBQ grills and picnic tables. It would be a whole lot nicer than sitting in a truckstop all weekend.

Yes and yes. Diane and I routinely look for RV parks to stay at when the freight permits. A few higher-end parks prohibit CMVs but generally we are admitted with no trouble. Shore power is a necessity. Unless you are running an Onan or other super-quiet generator, loud generator use would get you run out of a park as people complained. Even with a quiet generator, you want to be a good neighbor and keep the noise down. That's where shore power is a plus.

The lift gate doubles as deck for sitting and a grill stand. Diane is shown cooking with a George Foreman grill that we carry. The grill plugs into an external outlet that is installed on the truck. The plug is powered by shore power or the generator, depending on where we are. The generator may be used on the beach or at a primitive camp site when shore power is not available.

We belong to a couple of clubs. The only reason is for the discounts you can get on camp site space. We camp enough to make the membership fees worth the price. The discounts exceed the price of the wallet card.

when i ran the road sometimes i would stay on base at the camp grounds was great , park on a pad and no smelly truckstops and at 8.00 dollars a day was great

It has been our experience that commercial logos and the size of the logo on the vehicle sometimes come into play. We have been admitted into RV resorts with our tractor that denied us access with our DR-unit when leased to FECC. The reason given was that the management felt their other clients on either side of our unit would not appreciate looking out their windows only to be staring right at my 3' plus tall FEDEX logos on a big box. Looking at our avatar you will see that our new carrier's logo is much smaller and more tolerable to our RV neighbors.

All of the campgrounds and RV resorts we have stayed in have certain hours ( usually 10:00pm-8:00am) that running any genset is forbidden.

A note of caution here. Once when I camped at a state park in Il. I was awakened by dispatch who "Needed their help". When I tried to exit the place by the road I came in on, it was blocked by a chain. Numerous other exits were blocked as well. The only open exit was finally found.

Never went back to that place. (Don`t rember the name exactly but it was just a little north of Rockford)
