Cab Cleaning

Having not been in a straight truck for long and Load 1 providing a free wash bay, I have never used a commercial truck wash. My questions are this. Do they offer interior cleaning at the blue beacons or the Iowa 80's and if so what does it entail and how much?

Basically, no..
Not saying you can't find it but I've used many truck washes in many states and none come to mind.
For a heavy cleaning I'd look for an auto detail guy. Same basic principal. Same materials.
For light cleaning, do it yourself or get a girlfriend. If married, keep the girlfriend a secret. :)

Truck body shops may have a detail guy. There was a very large truck detailer/ polish shop in Nashville I used a few times. He did work for a lot of the new dealers down there.

Klein's rite around the corner from the yard on Ecorse. Ask Vince, he uses them for the tractors. Take Inkster to Ecorse and turn left and they are first business on the left.

So what you guys are saying is it basically is nonexistent. We had a thought the other day. Would someone be willing to pay someone to clean their cab for them at a truck stop? We were thinking something along the lines of vacuuming, clean floor mats, armor-all dash, clean windows inside and out, and clean mirrors for a fee. This would be something to do while waiting for a load or during a 34 hour restart. I have a Honda generator that would power a shop vac. I would think a lot of guys may be interested in having something like this done. Not sure of the price but it could create some extra income plus keep us active during down times. Your thoughts.

Sometimes you see some girls hanging out offering similar services.
Although some may be legit, I usually get the feeling that it's to get you in a comfortable, private area to offer other services.

You would have an advantage. If you made some "Flattop Truck Cleaning" signs, and maybe a Company T-Shirt you'd look real legit.

Photo copy a couple of dozen price sheets. Not very many as after a handful of jobs you might want to change your pricing/services.

Sounds like a good idea that you can use in good weather locations. Near a truckwash may be a good location if available.

Good Luck.

Just curious what you would do if you were in the middle of a cleaning job and dispatch called you for a load?

I think that you find those that are willing to paid to have there cabs cleaned, you'll most likely not want to even climb into.

Your on to something but I think everything you mention here is what most of us do now on a regular basis. Sounds like your talking about everyday wiping down..and unless you catch me on one of those really lazy weeks I propely would not/want to pay for it, since most times I can beat the cab back into shape in 20 minutes or so..
Now if your willing to use up the better part of a day to completely sanitize the truck & sleeper, by cleaning all the fabric,,metal surfaces,,under the door/window seals,, inside the door frames,, etc etc I would gladly drop close to a 2hundred dollar bill in your pocket. this will take allot of equipt and supply's and I don't think its worth you carrying everything in the truck. A thorough cleaning is not a easy task and if your good at it you should make some good beer money but properly not out on the road??
For every day cleaning I don't think I would pay for it, at home for a real detail job Yes.. A complete detail would almost require the truck to be out of service as someone else mentioned and to complete the Job you should be also.

From time to time I have gotten on the CB and offered to grease Bobtails while waiting and have collected some good money in the past. Not allot but enough to pay for my next grocery bill and have some change left over when I get home for the beer.

I suggested the signs so he'd look somewhat legit.
As hard as it is to get up on these aerodynamic trucks, ( considering the physical shape of many out here) I think he can do ok in the cab-only touch up.
A tub full of hot, soapy water for the rubber mats. Some good window supples for pristine glass. $5 for rainex.
5 trucks on a day at 20 each is $100.
Every weekend is $433 per month.
Minus supplies. Why not try ?

Thanks for all of the constructive comments. My thought was this. A person like myself would not be interested in this as we keep up on the cleaning on an almost day to day basis. However, and not to stereotype, but I would think the "larger" drivers who have a hard time getting around and not be able to do things with ease would be more open to something like this. This was more spurred out of being bored and trying to find ways of staying active and yet possibly be compensated at the same time.

I know there's Mark's Detailing in Holland, MI that's pretty good. Does interior and exterior detailing. Interior starts at $125, but for a truck with a sleeper (+42 inches) it's gonna be closer to $250-$300.

Wick's Sterling Trucks in Omaha has a truck wash and day spa where they'll detail your truck. Interior is about the same price. Exterior/interior will run you close to $600, but that includes carpets shampooed, steam cleaning the frame, the whole bit. I had my Sprinter cleaned there once. Inside and out, was about $175 I think. They did an awesome job.

I would also think any truck dealer would be able to hook you up with a good detailer.

In that case make sure you add a upcharge for half full soda bottles/jugs that ya find behind the seats..LOL

Like I said ya could be on to something and if ya get John to rent ya some shop space for a complete detail job I will schedule with ya..Heck ya never know if your good at it (and prices are right) maybe he will keep the work in house for his trucks and give it to you. Hope it pans out if you go after it.

The nice thing about this is the minimal investment. So you pop for $50 worth of cleaning supplies. You'll use them yourself if you never clean anybody else's truck.
It wouldn't be like having $10,000 worth of Fuller Brush in the basement.

I am a clean freak when it comes to pur truck. I have it down to a sciemce of which order to do things to minimize time and repetition as well. There are a few products that are very versitile as well. Example, stoners invisible glass is good for windows, guages, as well as fabric or upholstered seats and headliners. It removes stains, water spots, and freshens it as well. Lysols hydrogen peroxide cleaner works on vinyl, laminate, and plastc coated surfaces nicely. I think one of the major things that people over look while cleaning is the vents, grates on appliances/fridges, as well as cleaning their mattresses. I wash our bedding weekly, as well as cleaning our mattress.

I'm a fan of the Regular Invisible Glass. I've been using it with some blue towels designed for windows that we get at Walmart.
We also use Mean Green Degreaser and Cleaner we get at Dollar Tree for $1 per bottle. Good stuff.
