c unit-need help identifying

The truck that redytrk posted is what you will usually see as the average C unit with most companies. It really depends on the company as to whether it will be profitable. Some companies have a lot of C loads, other companies you may need a full 22 or 24 foot to get a load.

I'm with tri state and i haul alot of loads that are may four or five skids that a c unit could haul, but I haul alot of freight that is 10 or 11 skids sometimes a lil more if skids are stacked. I don't think I could make the money I do in a c unit. Just my 2 cents.

While the photo that Don posted is the most common if I were doing a C unit I'd be tempted to use an Argosy 110" BBC chassis with 14' box for an overall length of less than 25' including the liftgate platform on the back. I believe an Argosy has a 50 degree wheel cut so you'd have a very maneuverable vehicle. It wouldn't be "fun" but NYC would be far less odious than in a 40' unit. I know a couple of WG O/O who say a unit like that could stay busy all the time in the northeast corridor.

John, my reference was length. BBC is Bumper to Back of Cab. My ref was the largest Argosy body at 110" BBC. Add 3-4" gap to box plus 14' box and you are about 23.5' overall. I'm not familiar with a lighter weight chassis other than comparing class 7 and 8.
