C/D unit question

How many of you solo owners/operators of C and D units out there in EO land have removed the front passenger seat and replaced it with some sort of table or storage unit?

In my case, I have had one person sit in that seat to fix Idle Aire and once my wife came a long for a ride to my father's home so I think it would be better suited to have something there.

Probably more van owners have done this than orange and pomegranate owners. It is common for single van owners to pull the passenger seat and replace it with a refrigerator or shelf unit.

If you are not using that seat and especially if it is air ride, then pull it and save it to replace your driver's seat when it fails.

Good thing the van only forum isn't up and running yet! You may have missed this little nugget of knowledge.

This is one area where we of the female persuasion may see it differently: I don't want to advertise to strangers the fact that I'm alone - I don't even pile stuff on the passenger seat. (Well, not too much stuff, lol)

It wasn't in a van but a tt that my husband removed his seat. Built
a box and placed a fridge in it and used the top part for a
microwave. Worked pretty good.

Not me. Gotta have air ride for the cooler; and later on, a pup.

Greg,

I'm not a C ..... just a Sprinter ..... but I recently pulled my passenger seat and put in a "desk" - modeled on what Turtle has in his unit.

Mine is 30" long by 20" wide by 24" tall. The bottom shelf has about a 14" opening, the next one up around a 6" opening, then there's a pull-out shelf immediately under the very top of the unit. The pull-out shelf is 20" (wide) x 29" (long) - it pulls out towards the drivers seat and can rest on the driver's seat armrest for additional support, although it really doesn't need it. I drilled a 1/4" hole thru the top and the pull-out shelf and picked up a 1/4" x 2" pin with a split-ring in one end at the hardware section at Lowes to prevent the pull-out shelf from sliding out on it's own.

All shelves including the top have a 1" lip on them to prevent stuff from sliding off. I was originally going to put the microwave on the bottom shelf but since I put a removable hard drive and DVD in a 4 bay cabinet down there, the micro got relocated on top of the fridge/freezer behind the drivers seat.

I'd post some pics but they are on the desktop at home and I'm out on the road at the moment.

My set up is for a van, but a seat is a seat, right? I bolted an open ended box to the seat mount. Inside the box was for my printer (since removed, since I never use it) and on top I strap my scanner. I have a RAM laptop mount that holds my computer above the rest of the computer equipment.

Well Highway,

He might actually have descended from Ewoks. Here is what I do know:

a couple of ounces of old Chinese men,
a bit of Beggar, a tablespoon of monkey,
one part Baby Seal,
and a dash of Teddy Bear."
