Ban the Van?

Good Grief !!! It was a joke. [appartly ya missed that part]

Most writers know the capitalization basics: Capitalize the first word in a sentence.

I'm sure Moot meant ban the van in expediting, not ban van production. Van production will always remain at a certain level- fleets will always buy them, even if mini-vans and cross-overs rule the personal market.
As far as vans in expediting are concerned, I am inclined to agree with him. They may have a purpose, but I would never sit out here in a vehicle I couldn't stand up in without a sleeper for days at a time. Buy your own, take a chance if you really do your homework, get a life, and run a courier business.
Van owners (in my humble opinion) are the worst, making a little money off false promises...

You're right about the caps, I fixed it. Thank-you. As to Moot's post being a joke, if it was, I apologize. I enjoy a good tongue in cheek as much as the next guy. I just didn't read it that way, its kind of hard sometimes to read sarcasm.

Beg to differ with ya Dave:

From Front page:

Adam Walter, Recruiting Manager for Seville, OH-based Panther Expedited Services says that due to new freight opportunities, his company needs to add 30 cargo van owner-operators to its fleet within the next 30 days. Walter states that the vans must be 5 years old or newer and must be capable of carrying 2,000 lbs.

Says Walter, "We are very cautious in ensuring that business levels will support additional cargo van contractors. In fact, our van fleet numbers are less than the number prior to the Con-Way acquisition last year. With these new freight opportunities however, we find that we need to increase our van fleet capacity and this will be the right time to put a cargo van on with Panther."

Dave, I must apologize for my remarks and reply quoting you about vans and the Con-Way sale. Cheri pointed out to me that you were refering to vans aquired in the sale and how it affected Hondaking's bottom line as a Panther van owner. Somehow I missed that and thought you were commenting on vans in general. I am a bit oversensitive about the van basing and reacted too quickly.

I am sorry for taking a shot at you. And to everyone else I will end my ban the van campaign.

Moot, I think you misspelled acquire and bashing. Get a life or at least a dictionary.

The information from Panther is new, verses performance based over a period of time.
I thought the van count was higher, so I certainly stand corrected. I don't follow the vans that close, so that one got by me.
As far as vans in general, I think it is very competitive for them, just because of the nature of freight they are hauling.

Hey Moot, no problem.

Intresting after reading these.

Could be promising according to some of your posts. Just hope to begin having fun out here again and getting back to making some real $. Just hope its a slight streak of bad luck for myself and that people can get there act together when it comes to over borrowing and begine to pay debt down.

One indicator I keep hearing and hate, is all of these debt reduction consumer companies. I never ever heard of these commercials five years ago. Tells me there is a problem out there if there are companies set up to enoucrage one to walk away from debt or consolidate or what ever from over spending.

People do not have $ to spend equals?????

Ban the van? think 180 degrees opposite. you are bacwards, for every straight truck banned we could possibly be feeding 3 to 4 van families... so whats more important?? you or 3 or 4 families...actually i am kidding but am just showing you, how ignorant some people can be..

I'm just starting so I have no prior year history to base anything on. I started on March 16th (a Friday) and got one load that week. The next week I was out of service some and only ran on three days and my revenue almost doubled.

The week following I ran three days and my revenue more than doubled from the prior week. The week after that I ran on two days and revenue was down about 10%.

This past week I ran some on all five days and my revenue was up about 50% over the prior week. About 50% of my loads are local (less than 100 miles) and being the newest guy, others with more service are dispatched ahead of me with better loads, in most cases. Generally I'm home every night.

I'm encouraged that the trend is upward overall. ;)
