if you have a lift axle on your truck then it is unlawful for you to travel into the providence of British Columbia.

as of Aug. 2010 British Columbia required an Automatic lift axle.
the axle is lifted when weigh is less the 1,500 K.g
a permanent unique logo sticker must be attached to the frame on each side stating that this is an automatic lift axle.
a shut off valve needs to be a part of the device.
and an indicator light visible from the cab.

it is also unlawful to drive with a (none B.C) lift axle down .

for more info go to :

A friend got caught in Winnepeg years ago, axle up.a little too heavy on steer. Empty.
They said,no problem. We'll lower the axle. Scalemaster says NO ! We will not recognize your lift axle up here because the controls are in the cab. They deadheaded out w/o the load.
I believe that fleet puts the controls under the bunk now. I imagine that creates it's own set of problems.

They're legal, Linda. As luck would have it, I happened to be looking that info up not long before being pulled over by a bored scale cop in Quebec, just after exiting that tunnel in Montreal.

Canada issued a Memorandum of Understanding that applied to all provinces, allowing them. I believe the MOU was issued in late '08 or early '09. The scale LEO also advised that they were legal.

The thing that prompted my search was the fact that we entered QC with the tag axle down. We were very close to the up/down threshold (ours is about 6k# in the box, depending on where loaded), and had heard rumors that the tag was not recognized in QC. He advised that they were now.

There are weight considerations per axle or group, depending on tire setup.......see this:
