Out here it's proper etiquette to wave at everyone when you're driving..and speak to everyone when you're walking. Just a friendly little Howdy!
I used to live about 40 miles west of Atlanta for many many years, but the city started to encroach upon the little town I was living in. So I moved. Right smack in the middle of nowhere hillbilly country Tennessee. And I love it. People are friendly, waving at you, talking to you, helping you. Everybody knows everybody, or they just know me cause I am the stranger in town with a funny accent.
Somehow, the words to a song come to my mind: "Jeremiah....was a good friend of mine, never understood a single word he said, but I helped him drink his wine."
When I moved to TN I opened a bank account. Since I use ATMs, online banking and direct deposit I hardly ever go inside a bank. The next time I walked into this bank was months later when I applied for a mortgage. I went in the special office on the side to talk to the mortgage specialist....and I start filling out the application. They asked on the app for my bank account number. So I walk out of the office to the counter and asked for it since I didn't have it with me. The nice lady behind the counter said "One second" and typed something in her computer. I was expecting to be asked my name, address, ssn, show id, all that stuff that they would normally ask. Instead, after a few seconds, she hands me a post-it note with my account number. She didn't even need my name, it just blew my mind.
Just a nice place to live. Friendly people, low insurance rates, what not to love?
