What was his reasoning for killing it?

You talking about the deer?

We think its hind leg was either broke or out of socket..No telling how long she was hanging there, she had a preety good hole dug on her side of the fence. Plus all the hide was ripped all the way around her leg and it properly would not have healed..I feel good it was a mercy kill, just disappointed after taking the time to cut her loose and didn't get to see her run off.. But she should be on the grill by now and that's a good thing she wasn't wasted.
Waste not want not! Here's hoping she went to feed someone very hungry!

So I thought I would do a good deed today while rolling across 24 just west of Toledo.. Took about 20 miles to cut this Doe free from the fence and then the Deputy comes along and shoots it dead.:(
That just sucks.. hope you got the meat for your good deed!
Hummer doesn't like deer meat? got a dislike?
The dislike was because he killed the deer but like you said at least the meat didn't go to waste. I'll change my answer. Didn't know it could go against you if I put "dislike"

Thinking of starting a new carrier. It will be called "Sanctuary Logistics". We will accept any load at any price, none will be turned away. We will pick up and deliver if and when we want because we can! If the delivery doesn't happen at all we still have to get paid because we have no accountability. If you try to locate your shipment we will stonewall you because we won't share information on our drivers either. Oh, and if brokers try to withold future shipments we will hold a press conference and make everyone aware of their actions to enslave our drivers!

I don't think I've ever given out a dislike even when I've had my political spats. lol

I disliked the police officer but later on read that he thought the deer had a broken leg or it was pulled out of the socket so it was a mercy shooting. I don't do politics. Lol.

Like Hummer, I used to be sympathetic to the cute deer, (bunnies too), but as a commercial driver I now look at deer as a potential major pain and possible liability.

Deer are just a fact of life out here.. never shot one but I do like to eat them. I make a mean chicken fried venison. I've got a pan of water in the yard for the birds, deer and pheasants and am rewarded with the sights of nature. However I do support the deer hunters to keep the numbers down as they can be dangerous to vehicles and I don't grow corn anymore because I never can beat the raccoons and the deer to the garden. And lord they get expensive when you hit them! But I'd put a bullet in an injured deer too.
