It will probably clean it up a little but I hate to see another locally owned business gone and replaced by a "chain store". The loss of a real restaurant really bites. I don't know about you all but I'm tired of eating in fast food places and miss the days of real sit down meals.
Stay safe out there.

Maybe we'll get Denny's back in Fort Wayne. On occasion I miss Denny's. THe food was good but the service always sucked. We lost two of them here a few years back

If Pilot tears down that stop and builds the new ones, they may replace it with a Denny's. Regardless of what people think of Pilot, they do exactly what every major company does...BUY UP THEIR COMPETITION!

Being from Fort Wayne I can tell you that this truck stop has NOT been locally owned for many many years.

The Fortmeyer folks (local) sold the place to a corporation out of Ohio who has thus sold it off again.

Pilot needed to make a move into Fort Wayne since a nearby city (New Haven) rejected the Flying J's proposal of building a location just off 469/30. The courts later over ruled that move by New Haven, but, I think the Pilot/Flying J corporation might have thought why build a new building in a city that doesn't want us when we can take over an established location and maybe down the road rebuild.

As far as the resturant there goes, I hope they do gut it - it has failed 3 out of the last county food inspections. I was told by the area manager that there are several leases within the building that they will at least honor till the end of the lease terms (mid April and mid May of 2011)....that being the independently ran C-store (Jo-Jo's), the knife store and the heart MD stand, along with the resturant.

They have already added a laundry room upstairs and will also be adding several more showers upstairs and keeping the older showers downstairs as well.

IMHO - I already believe the change is for the better.........now if they would just stop leasing out spaces in the parking lot it would be even better.

Ray's is seperate from the Pilot.....and yes it is local/regionally owned.

And that's another thing - they have the CAT scales at Rays and that is what I use when needed but at the Fort Wayne now Pilot staation they have the old, beat up no-name scale - I will assume sometime before or after winter that wil change to.

I don't really consider Ray's a truck stop more of a truck wash/fuel stop they really don't have much of a facility on restroom. But it's easy in easy out and quick and that is what I look for

We stopped there a couple of weeks ago. Yes the Pilot fuel islands are an improvement however, I went to the mens room and the same pile of used Toilet paper on the floor was still therefrom a month prior. Thank God are friends at the Carrier dealer let us use thier facilities.
