I'm curious how 3S at $1.20 a mile makes the list and P2 at $1.20 a mile doesn't make the list.

I did not include panther because panther does a lot of automotive freight. Whereas Tristate does not do any NLM at all and is still pulling Caterpillar freight and offering their drivers a near 30 cent per mile fuel surcharge when panther is only offering 13 or 14 cents.

I wonder with all the layoffs, cut back in hours for some and the rate cuts for the O/O just how good of shape T/S is in. This all seems like desperate measures to try and save a failing carrier. With the state of expediting right now the failure of some carriers might be a good thing for the industry overall.

TS does not pull any NLM? I thought all of the large carriers hauled at least some. As far as the large FSC for hauling Cat loads, that only makes up for the household good miles that they pay. In the end you get the same pay per mile as with any other run.

I have always gotten NLM loads from TS. The only difference is that for the past two years TS did not cut our pay just because it was a cheaper NLM load while all of the other carriers did.

That's no insult to the other companies, but TS has done their best to pay us a decent rate. I don't think they're in trouble, but trying to avoid being in trouble. That's the difference. The companies going out of the business are the ones that are "saying no to cheap freight" during these tough times.

And yes, we would all do better with fewer companies out there. But P2, TS and Fedex will outlast most of the rest.
