I was gonna get back in the saddle, boy am I glad I didn't I found a fine position. health benefits 401k 45-50 hrs week ot pay, home every night, my own TOILET, my very own queen size bed, my 32inch flat screen tv. I've been away from expediting for 6months and when I think I miss it. I just think back at what life was like

And now that it's winter I really know I made the right decision, oh wait my very own hot water shower, man Im grinning right now at how good I have it and get this I'm making more money doing this and less stress than I was out on the road.

I suggest to anyone wanting to get in this business don't and if your thinking of getting out do, you will be much happier.

Best wishes for all yall expediters still dealing with the life of an expediter

For some reason I didn't feel like a human on the road, just a bum walking into walmarts using there facilites then going back to the truck and waiting for the beep, and when it did beep it was panther giving me updates about how well were doing and updates

I'm retreating to the luxurious bathroom to sit on my thrown a thrown that I dont have to open the lid and wonder if there will be anything in it or anything on the seat or if theres any toilet paper, and I wont have to read the filthy writting on the doors

That is exactly why so many of us that have chosen this "life on the road" have gone to fully equiped large sleeper trucks with all of the emenities! Its the next best thing to being home, especially being complete with built in toilet and shower. That allows us to enjoy our love of the road. And we work when we want and take time off whenever we wish because we work for our own business, not someone else. I really like that!!!

Glad things have worked out for you at home, especially in these trying economic times in the job market as a whole.

And your point is what? You use your own toilet? Get real. Expediters are business people, many with business goals and dreams.

Possibly, the best "business decision" you have made is to stay home and use your own toilet.

FLUSH!

There is a whole lot of office people doing the same thing everyday and bored that would jump at the chance expediting provides.

It's nice that you've found a job that pays as well or better than expediting does. But I have to ask, 45-50 hrs of overtime? Just how much will you actually be home?
Although we love this job, if we could make the same amount of money, for the same amount of work in a so called "normal" job, we'd be on the porch right now. Best of luck to you

Glad you are enjoying life at home as much as we are life on the road. Watch your tv and I will watch the sun set on snow covered mountain and deer bounce through the snow :)

I'm glad you are glad. You mentioned all the things that bother me about this business and trucking in general. It's clear that expediting was not for you. There will always be a fly in the ointment in any career you may choose so you have to choose the ones that you can put up with. I enjoy this business and despite the drawbacks I have enough self respect to endure the demeaning side of it. I will continue to be the happy homeless guy living in a tin can. It's a nice step up from a refrigerator box.

Glad things worked out for you. We have to work, we have no choice on that. We like this business because it gives us more freedom and control over our lives. It does have drawbacks but everything does. I will say one thing, if I hit the lottery (I rarely buy tickets, is that a problem?) I would not be doing this anymore. LOL. I would never been seen again, out of the field or off the water that is. Layoutshooter

All I can say as I read your post was how sorry I felt for you! What a boring life but once again this life is not for everyone and it is a lifestyle and if you do not love it you are going to be miserable.

So I will go back to running our business sitting here working on the computer, drinking my coffee and watching the sun come up! Now that is life.

Just read layoutshooters response! If we hit the lottery which we will not as we do not buy tickets we would have a tricked out C Unit dry box and keep right on doing what we are doing!

If I hit the lottery really big, I'd build three or four "driver supported" expediter only layover centers in key expedite areas. I would charge a yearly membership for the maintenance and upkeep but provide a very cool place for us all to hang out at while we are waiting for loads.

That tricked out CR unit would have to have SIX wheel drive since expediting my freight would require you do go to more "seanic" areas that you do most of the time. It would also include home cooked meals and evenings spent around a campfire listening to us lie about that days adventures. Layoutshooter
