Box floor care?

The floor in my Big B is starting to get crumbly for lack of a better word on the top. Everytime I have to drag a skid out I find more and more little dry splinters all over the place.

The floor in my Morgan box is 1" Apitong and is laid in two pieces.

Is there some sort of treatment I can put on this to delay it's shedding? Perhaps polyurethane or maybe Thompson's deck treatment?

Mike Sounds like your floor is 'flake board' for which there is little hope. If it's ordinary plywood you can try to seal it with a urethane. I use Min-wax water based urethane (blue label) because it drys in 10 minutes. Use three coats. Not as durable as solvent based but ok for my van. What is the floor mat'l?

I ought to think before posting. Are you saying the big B is apatong? Whats that material?

Forgive my spelling. The matterial is Apitong. It is an Asian hardwood that does not have knots making it perfect for things like truck/trailer flooring.

Sounds like you should have sealed the floor when it was new. Since the floor is getting ragged you might want to borrow or rent a belt sander and smooth that bad boy out and get a two part epoxy sealer and put a beautiful coating on there that will last for years. One word of caution, use in a well ventilated area.. Good luck and get sanding..

Is that what you used on your truck, Glen? What would you suggest for a brand new floor?

My old FL70 had its floor epoxy coated by the previous owner, and it does add a lot of durability. One downside is it made the floor VERY slick to stand on when cold or moist though, but that might not be an issue with an insulated type box. Could be slick when refrigerated, but can't verify that.
It also made the floor look very pretty and easy to clean. Downside to that is one then might not be so willing to use nails in the floor, which might be necessary sometimes for proper freight securement.
My current box floor is not coated with anything, and looking back, even with the small disadvantages I should have epoxy coated it in the beginning, because it is really scuffed up now.
