An interesting side note to this mess...
Some news sources are saying:
"As the five-day manhunt for the suspects drew to a close, the FBI also confirmed that its agents in Boston had interviewed TamerlanTsarnaev in 2011 at the request of a foreign government. A law enforcment official said the request came from the Russian government, concerned about Tsarnaev’s potential ties to Chechen terrorists. But after that interview, the FBI did not follow him further, officials said."
The Chechens and Russia, and Putin of course, are now worried about perceived connections.

That boat is going to be worth a lot, or someone will think it should be, and it'll languish in the backwaters of American history museums forever...
Or find it's way to the Henry Ford next to the car that Kennedy was killed in.
That should be an interesting insurance claim, if he has it. Someone should pick up the tab for a new one. I'm sure it looks like swiss cheese now.

I'm not sure it got all that shot up, from reports I heard, though it may have.
From watching and hearing the video of the gun fire, I'm surprised he was even still alive.
Police are not always the best trained people in the use of firearms. There could be other reasons as well. The boat hull could have stopped much of the fire and/or the fire at the end was suppressing fire just to keep him down and unable to fire back.
