Clearing up restrictions that clog the Canada-U.S. border could save businesses in both countries as much as $30 billion a year, according to Canada's minister of international trade.

What border deal?

I don't see a harmonization of the customs regulations any time soon but that is the biggest issue we have in traveling back into the states. The flow into canada seems to be good on any given day.

The real issue I have with this writer is this comment;

Sources said it is a scaled-down version of the sweeping vision to fortify the continent announced eight months ago, steering clear of contentious ideas about harmonizing Canadian and U.S. immigration systems.

A very loud NO WAY should we do that unless the Canada wants to lead in tightening up immigration into their country from the former Empire countries.

There is a fight brewing over this second bridge here and many are starting to see what many experience, the slowdowns are directly attributed to the US customs' requirements that have changed in the last ten or so years which slows everything down. Rid ourselves of the FAST/ACE systems and return to a harmonized system with Canada and we can have some sanity again.
