Its really not a big deal...QUIT I was looking for a job 4 years ago when i started this one.....if it becomes a regulation of hours on the van, we will have a lot more load opportunities....swaps we all hate them but every long load will turn into two loads....load counts will go up..

Load counts will go up, yes, but so will youre deadhead miles to get those loads and/or swaps. So what good is that? youre pay for all miles will go down, also.Doesnt make much sense the way I see it, then you get unloaded, and if with a larger co,go back into line to get the next load.I'd rather have 2 long runs than a bunch of smaller loads. That is one thing I did like at Polly.

Not so tough really. Failure to display DOT numbers carries a fine of $x,xxx.00 or maybe $xx,xxx.00 and I bet you won't see very many without signage.

There are CV's hauling freight ALL over the country without DOT #s on them, and not just a few......there are also people covering their carriers names and DOT #'s with blank magnetic signs when thay are hauling loads for other carriers.....its done daily some with the consent of the carriers, some without...bolt is not ok with that happening as it violates "exclusivity clause" in their contract....

Alot of people believe that rules are to be broken, much like soeeding.....

Actually, if the vans get regulated, the bigger companies will just hire team O/O's and the single driver will be phased out.

You know chef, people think that they are totally exempt by the fact that they are driving a van don't get that there is really two parts to this - the driver and the vehicle.

OK so people don't have signs, big deal but get caught, get a ticket and then the new CSA 2010 kicks in because there is no exemption to that reporting system based on vehicle weights because it is about the driver not the vehicle. You now have points on your 'csa' record, your carrier has to take corrective measures if you exceed so many points and if it is bad enough, then you may not be allowed to drive any commercial vehicle (which means a vehicle used for commercial purposes) and no company can accept you, even if you are an independent.

So let's look at another one. You get pulled over as an unmarked commercial vehicle for a light out while driving a vehicle that is part of the carrier, your van. You don't report that ticket and because of this idea there is an exemption, you don't put it on your equipment report but now you have a violation based on the CSA 2010 and the FMCSA regs, not reporting the violation, not reporting the repair and you gain points.

The big compaines don't use vans as much as people think because they can always shift things around and use trucks - both solo and teams but I can't see them only focusing on teams alone.

No one said that anyone was exempt...but the fact is people are running allover the country in CV's with no DOT #'s on them and or covering them when thay are hauling loads for carriers other then the one they are leased to..it happens daily...as i said, some people feel rules are made to be broken and really don't care about what "might" happen until it happens....

Why would a carrier put a cargo van load on a straight truck and have to pay more money for the larger truck to haul it? Also, a shipper is not going to pay straight truck rate for a cargo van load to be shipped.

Oh, as far as solos are concerned, most of the loads I see out there that have any miles to them are team loads "as far as straight truck loads are concerned!" Again, the most profitable trucks for a carrier are cargo vans, sprinters, and straight trucks with husband and wife teams in them.

You can't refute this fact. So, once again, get ready to bunk up with bubba, or prepare to do some creative logging!

ahhhhh carriers put CV loads on ST's daily..some are paid lower then ST rates but aboveCV rates while others are paid at ST rates......yes it happens every day ......why, to keep the ST's moving and in the fleet....

Naw the better question is why would someone work for a company in a van at flat rate when the company may be making a lot more money by cramming a load into a van?
