Just more from those "obstructionist Republicans"!! If barry wants it, they are against it....

Wait, barrys minions said it would add millions to the cost of moving freight...that isn't good for the trucking industry...and the DOT sayes its needed for "safety"...

Republicans...the party of "NO"....contact your elected reps and tell them you want "safer roads and to reel in all of those truck drivers that are the most unsafe drivers on the road, and the most tired too..Wait...there is no proof of that...there is no proof to justify these changes....awww forget it...its bushs fault.....

The opposition party is correct, I believe, in this case, that the proposed regulatory change will burden carriers and shippers with additional and significant expenses while providing no meaningful improvements in safety.

That said, Diane and I would likely profit handsomely if the proposed regulation went through and a 10 hour daily driving limit was imposed. As a team we would be less impacted by a reduction in driving hours.

Industry wide, additional drivers would be needed to make up for the productivity loss. With good drivers already hard to find, the value we bring to the marketplace would command a higher price, perhaps much higher. The demand for expedited freight would increase too, I believe, since driver-short carriers would need us more often to keep their customers happy and on board.

I support keeping HOS as it is, except to also re-instate the team 5 on/5 off rule. At the same time, I realize that if the DOT imposes a 10 hour limit, the industry's pain may be our gain.

The last change [2004] made it worse, mandating 10 consecutive hours off, and eliminating the split sleeper provision, [forcing drivers to stay behind the wheel for 11, mostly].
The proposed changes are even worse yet: confusing in the extreme, and for no good reason at all.
I'd like to see it returned to 10 hrs driving, 8 off, and the split sleeper returned - I don't want to drive 11 consecutive hrs every day, and I prefer 'skipping' rush hour, when possible - taking a 2 hr break and enjoying a decent meal [or a nap] while the crazy traffic goes by was much safer, IMO.
