Blue Ice

Yeah, I know I have previously posted that I wasn't a fan of colored ice. In fact, somewhere on here I stated that I didn't believe in the notorious black ice. I still don't. Colored ice on hockey rinks, curling sheets, sure; but not black ice. Blue ice falling from planes, yes; I have never seen though.

This morning I discovered blue ice in the windshield wash bucket at a Flying J. Nothing unusual about thick window wash fluid during the winter when the temperature is below zero. But the temperature wasn't below zero! It was a balmy +27ºF. This washer fluid froze at 5ºF below the freezing point. It wasn't frozen solid but I couldn't get the squeegee/washer free out without fear of breaking it. Apparently blue food coloring is cheaper than alcohol and the corporate stooges won't have to worry about employees drinking the stuff and failing to properly carry out their duties.

Well at least it's not green ice. You know for some drivers the fuel island is as good as anywhere to take a xxxx. Lol
Green ice? Somebody has been loading up on the broccoli and the asparagus at the salad bar.

well IF one reads a label there are some brands of that CHEAP blue that say right on the label...good to 32 degrees.
So yes at 27 degees it would freeze....

I took the picture of the frozen wash bucket at the Flying J located south of the Beloit and north of Rockfish. It's not like that area doesn't get temperatures below freezing during the winter months. I not so sure it's matter of being cheap but rather one of corporate ignorance. During the summer and in warmer areas of the country they add a soap packet to a bucket of wash. One soap packet could probably treat a 55 gallon drum of wash yet they add one to a container that holds about 2 gallons.

poor training of staff from top down....which is surprising cuz the last manager I seen was actually a working manager.....he came in the lines were long he rolled up his sleeves spelled the girl making coffee to go on registers and HE made the coffee....

I use the Prestone Anti Ice windshield fluid in the winter. Good to MINUS 27.....

it really does help delaying getting out and knocking off ice for some time...

Ok I have to admit a bit of shock ken, that stuff is premium priced.
thing is....it works very well, you don't need to use a lot.....and then it is a bit of a safety factor......the cheap crap will easily freeze in them skinny lines and you have 0 to use....besides my Walmart finds help fund the difference.....LOL
