Blackrock Apu's????

Being slow as I am I didn't run across them till yesterday....Does anyone own a Blackrock and if so what is your experience with it? We have had nightmares with one paticular brand and found another to be so so. The "BR" design looks great for service and maint with everything accessable in the front (belts, filters) and with 24,000 btu's (vs. 10k to 12k) up to 6kw gen and service intervals of 1000 hrs (vs 200) this thing looks too good to be true! Apu's are a great investment but the expense up front is a hard lump to swallow and I would be beside myself if I dropped 7 grand and the company folded. Better off to to put a RV unit on a midroof and buy a Onan?

One good thing about (hopefully) Pro Heat is that Carrier bought them out. So DH for service is no longer a problem for me. I have spent as much in DH miles than I have for the repairs.

I've heard some good reports about them but don't have firsthand experience. They are one I'd look into if shopping again and didn't get another Willis. I'm happy with my Willis though so I don't expect to be looking.

Hey Leo, I just looked up some info on Willis (wasn't familiar w/ them) seems like a pretty elaborate system. Did you have one on your older truck? How is ease of maint? and intervals? Did you get the air start on yours? I was curious about the utilization of existing controls in regards to your HVAC, did you lose any cooling capacity at regular idle with the system being added? With the 3 cylinder Kubota is the unit quiet enough during operation? Vibration? Sorry for all the questions but I didn't find any reader reviews with useful info.

My other truck has a Proheat. The sleeper was not properly designed to accept it so it never worked as it should and wasn't capable of dealing with extreme heat. It also had several problems. It's doing quite a bit better now but without a properly designed sleeper (that accepts the full size vents and hoses) it will never be adequate.

I don't have the air starter. I do have the air compressor that keeps the air tanks full. I may look into adding the air starter eventually. The unit is much quieter than most when on low idle (no a/c or air compressor) and is no noisier than others on high idle (a/c or air compressor).

Using a combination of the front and sleeper a/c or heat units it will flat out freeze or roast you depending on air or heat. It's definitely on my short list from now on.
