Big Rigs and those pile ups.

When we see films on national tv of big rigs piling up on each other in snow or whatever, and sometimes it is plain to see they never let up on the pedal until they crash , are they fired soon after or just get another truck the next day and go with it?

It depends on whether they are determined to be at fault - if so, they are fired.
I know one driver who wrecked a truck, when dispatch called shortly after a pickup, asking for info on the BOL. Driver reached for it, taking eyes off road, then saw the truck heading towards the shoulder [the hand always follows the eye!], over corrected, and laid the truck down. No other damage, but the driver was fired within the hour.
Judging by the "John Doe" accident scenarios posted by CCJ, the driver is always at fault - even when a 4 wheeler does something totally unexpected & illegal.

Lesson here is those darn dispatchers need to quit calling all the time to get the same info as the last time they called! My answer is usually I'm a half hour further than the last time you called me , now go away!

You realize that it's the "customer" who wants the info, right? I totally agree, dispatch shouldn't need to call for info, [and at Load 1, they don't], especially to ask where you are, because WTH good is a satellite if they have to ask? and unless you've indicated a possible delay, they should assume you will be in time, and why would the customer need more than that? Don't those people have any actual work to do?!
My personal feeling has always been that once I've established a record of being on time, they should back off & let me do my job. If I'm late, then I deserve the scrutiny, but not otherwise.

I do loads for all sorts of customers and I've got an a-1 spotless record of being on time
I've never missed a pickup or delivery time except when my turbo blew out and then kt was only a few hrs late and wasn't time critical. I still find it very hard to believe every customer is calling asking where their shipment of empty cardboard used flattened boxes are at, or their 25,000 washers that they just had a delivery on the day prior at located , and these went into the same corner in the warehouse. I think the pimps at this one place just have little to do and like calling just to help them learn English. I don't have a sat on my truck but I track able using
Macro point which follows my phone GPS but sometimes they call cause they're to lazy to check . I love the one who constantly texts me asking for status, says drivers like it better than being called while driving, I say bs!!! Then they still call when I don't text back. It's just amazing .

If I got a text asking for my status, I think I'd be unable to resist responding with Epilepticus. Or maybe just Quo.
Seriously, do they know what can happen if the driver they text is in a wreck while reading/replying to their texts? Because friends & family are often unaware that you're driving, but they know that you are, which makes them also culpable, when legal blame gets portioned out.
