Better mousetrap.. uh.. load strap

Why doesn't someone make an etrack strap that has about 2-3 inches of strap between the snap hook and the ratchet with the entire 12' or 16' or 20' of the strap being in the adjustable end? There are many times something small or odd shape needs secured and a strap like this would do better. It would be equally good for everything else I believe.

I made my own. Could be easier finding one like greg says. A rigging shop can do it while you wait, and it will be up to code.

I found the rigging shop by going to the tiedown distributor. He didn't have what I was looking for, so he directed me a couple blocks away to the man who made his straps.

We ordered custom-made straps that address your need from a vendor who was exhibiting at MATS (Louisville truck show) a few years ago. Sorry, I don't recall the name.

New Haven Moving Equipment will custom build straps for you but there will be a wait as they are made in China.

You are right about having straps with a short end or fully adjustable end. We use ours often and are glad to have them when we do.

Leo, give Roger at Ratchet Depot a call. They can make you straps in any size with or color, done at their facility here in the US. They were one of the ones that showcased at MATS this year and were willing to do custom straps.

Phone number is 1-864-299-6672.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm just getting tired of the ratchet either digging in to the freight or being so far up I can't secure small stuff. I may get them and find out I'm all wrong but it seems to me if the ratchet stayed a couple inches from the etrack and the adjustable strap did all the adjusting it would work better. Thanks again.

what I do Leo is move the strap at a farther conecting point towards the front of the load, then the ratchet is away from the freight. What Ive also done in the past is tie one of the straps in a not, that will get it away from the freight too

Yeah, I'll move the connector to adjust but sometimes that isn't possible or doesn't help depending on the load. With staps like I'm thinking of the ratchet would be against the pallet not the freight. I'll get around to looking into having some made one of these days, maybe at the next show when I talk to them direct.

In that case I'll just have to see when I get in the vicinity of Lodi again.

Leo,

I made mine with about 8 inches between e-fastener and ratchet. That way the ratchet clears the pallet or the side of small flat boxes.

Ours have 12" between the fastner and ratchet. Leo, I'm not sure that 2" would be the best. There will always be that one box or skid for which a 2", 8" or 12" short-end strap will not work. If you are going to have them custom made, think about making both 6" and 12". Maybe have the short ends made of different colors for easy identification.

We only had four special straps made and that has been enough.

Leo,
There are two things, beware of companies who modify straps, they can not certify their work - manufacturers can.

AND

You ever heard of corner protectors and veeboards?

I've got 4 of the corner protectors and use them frequently. They don't work for everything though. Also, there are times in the van when I have something almost roof height. I strap up and over to the floor track. With a standard strap that puts the ratchet at the ceiling where it's inconvenient. I've emailed Lodi Metals about having some made up. I'll think about the different end lengths. Another good idea.
