Become an Expediter, See the Country

I am getting tired of driving around only the Chicagoland area,

Me too! Actually I like the Chicago area. Right now I am sitting in Elk Grove Village waiting for the consignee to open. Then it's over to Bartlett for a pickup.

Is there a company that gives out a 401k? Thanks!

Most large expedite companies contract with owner/operators. As a contractor (not an employee) you would not be eligible for a 401K. You can open something like a Roth IRA but you would be the sole contributor. No matching funds.

Your Right, Served the Country for 23 On a Retainer till 2012.

Now Im seeing this great Nation that I so Proudly Served.

Expedite is the way to go. Total Packages realy do pay Like a Lift Gates, Reefers Ect.

I realy don't have the need for a house on Wheels though they seem to be very very nice.
However the Equipmet is a must I do agree on that.

I drive a Tractor Trailer I wouldnt have it any other way.
I dont have my better half out here with me so I dont need a House. Got A Town House in New Port News and then an Acerage in Ticonic Iowa that has a House and Farm buildings on it. Then the Farm of 40 Acres Out side of Turin, Iowa my home Town of which I soon will be Having a House built on.

Na I dont realy need a House on wheels even though that Hot little Truck looks so Inviting. How Ever give me a Micro Wave and A small Refrigator to keep my Chicken and Ham cold and Cheese ect and a shelf for my Uncle Bens Rice and Cans of Chille with Beans & Soups & Teas & Bread and that its all good.

Equipment is a must and and the more Flags one has the more revenue one can make I totaly agree.

Total Package
TRactors invertor and Generator with Ac unite a must
Reefer Trailer
53ft space
Lights inside the Trailer
Bellie Box for all the Pads ect
Lift Gate
Ya thats the Real Deal for me..

Now for others a Straight Truck with a Lift Gate and reefer
and A House well hey everyone has there own cup of Tea but since my Better half isn't with me No thanks.

Your right Expedite is the Way to go to see The Greatest Nation on Earth and do so by way of thee Great Company we Drive for. FedEX CC. for me or one of the Others for that matter.

The trucking industry has a very good perk, you get to see the country, but in expediting, this is taken to another level. As because of the nature of expediting and not being loaded every day,you get time to actually see the many great places others just have time to drive through.
Many in the expediting feel they are on a constant paid vacation,I've felt that way, since becoming a truck driver.
With over 3 million miles,I've been from border to border, ocean to ocean, but since in expediting the last 26 years,I've had time to smell the roses.

The best things in life are right in front of you open your eyes and enjoy it.A beautiful sunrise or sun set. Or seeing the northern lights. Mt Rushmore, the great smokey mountains .These are some of the things you can see while turning your wheels making $. The list goes on. Or seeing Phil sitting on his deck. While Diane must be grilling or cooking.Phil all you need is a Milwaukee koolaid .Just joking with you. I find that to be a great picture.

I passed the million mile mark in July of 2003. Seventy five percent of my driving has been solo but did have an enjoyable 3 year team stint with a really good friend of mine. Ive yet to become tired of my view through the windshield. Its very hard to explain to 8 to 5'ers that driving a truck OTR can be fun. Yes, fun. By profession, I am a commercial driver. No one I personally know ever uses the word Vacationer when decribing our profession. Last time I looked, the word vacation is a 180° difference from what our job entails. Seeing the country as described by the OP is simply one of the great assets we experience by turning miles. Using words like traveling rediccilously describes our actual job decription. Once again, youll not chat with other professional drivers and ever hear them use words like,"im traveling".

Seeing the country has a tangible level of reward the some will experience. Some will not. By far this is the easiest job ive ever been involved in. Dosnt mean you dont have to work at it and most deffinatly requires decent amounts of substance between
the ears. You aint gonna succeed by mearly sleeping at the wheel. Does require the driver to maintain a sensible level of responsibility. But at the end of the day, this is quite simply, an easy job. So combine the part about seeing the country and making money without any type of advanced degree or trained vocation and I equate what I do as a blessed occupation. Yeah, and its fun too.

OMG, almost forgot the line about these so called vacationers skewing up the rates. How dumb was that of an idea? If youre gonna contend that you really know an industry, then id suggest getting involved and see first hand how our industry works. Preposterous statements like that make it easy to conclude the individual has no clue about how the industry works.

As Humble2drive also said. Id have no reservations suggesting to certain people that Expediting is a great choice to persue. Heck yes, seeing the country is a benifit thats really hard to ignore. And its not even an issue of mixing business and pleasure. Its actually a pleasure to do business.

People gotta be carefull getting into this business. But don't you gotta be carefull about getting involved in any occupation ? Of course you do. People arnt nearly as unqualified as some would suggest. Theres plenty of room out here and the views I see daily arnt going away.

Seeing the Country and getting paid to do it sounds good, and it is.

Isn't it great to do something you enjoy? I love my job and really don't want to do anything else. I wake up most mornings excited about getting behind the wheel.
Like the title to the book out there "Do what you love and the money will follow":)

Someone wise once said "If you do what you love, you'll never have to work again." I love what I do and I get paid for it, sure there are probably easier ways to make money but this is what I enjoy. I've had much harder jobs that paid ALOT less.

I've had a lot of different jobs [since I was 16], and this is the only one that I've never once thought "I don't want to go to work today:("
Getting paid to do what you'd do for free is my definition of success. :D
