Fox Nation first ran the headline, "Obama gives back major strip of AZ to Mexico".
Then we had Shannon Bream on Fox News America Live report state: "A massive stretch of Arizona now off limits to Americans. Critics say the administration is, in effect, giving a major strip of the Southwest back to Mexico." Right around 9 to 10 seconds into the interview.
Note the words "in effect"; nowhere does she say the land was literally given back to Mexico. Bream and the Sheriff are discussing an area of AZ that goes beyone the portion closed off in 2006, and that contains warning signs alerting citizens to dangerous illegal aliens. His point is that the Obama administration is doing nothing to stem the tide of illegals and drug gangs and Mexican human trafficers are making parts of his county dangerous for the citizens of AZ.
As for the Fox Nation headline, Swarbrick called it "totally false" and said the notion that America had given the land back to Mexico is "ludicrous."
Granted, the Fox Nation headline is a poor choice of words and they opened themselves up to the appropriate criticism. A better statement would have said that the land had been "turned over to illegal Mexican immigrants, drug gangs and human smugglers." As I tried to explain earlier, I didn't address the Fox Nation statements in my original post.
I didn't even mention the video that was shown in the Bream interview that was showing illegals scaling the fence. Take a close look, its from 2006.
So what? It's file tape. They're still coming over that fence, and it's probably not safe for cameramen to get footage any more.
If you want to talk about the problem we have on the border fine but if you want to defend Fox and blame Obama and his administration for the problem that has existed before he took office, then go back to watching Fox.
I plan to do exactly that. My defense was/is of the Bream report that Chef originally posted. She does NOT claim the US gave land back to Mexico. The illegal Mexican problem as it exists today IS NOW OBAMA'S FAULT - he's been president going on two years and has done nothing to stem the flow of illegals in spite of having plenty of time and opportunities to do so. Furthermore, he intends to interfere with Arizona's attempt to take care of the federal responsibilities that he continues to ignore (as signaled by his SecState in an interview while in Ecuador). I fully intend to continue to watch Fox News (along with the vast majority of viewers who watch cable news) in spite of the toe stub by their sister website. You, on the other hand, may have Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow or whomever else you enjoy as a source for news - that's the nice thing about the US is its choices of sources for news, entertainment, etc.
I've never said where my loyalties lie with either party, so for you to call me a liberal because I pointed out what Chef posted and what Fox was trying to "report" (if you can call it reporting) then you my friend do not have a clue. Just because I choose to find out the facts instead of mindlessly taking in the crap that Fox throws out there doesn't make me a liberal.
I asked if you were joking when you came back with one article from Fox News, when we already had the Breem interview and the Fox Nation headlines. Then you question my intelligence? I better let you go, Beck is starting in 5 minutes.
If you think that I or anyone else mindlessly accepts everything we hear on ANY news source, then you're the one that's not only clueless, but also promoting the liberal notion that conservatives are just gullible neanderthals who can't communicate on your acceptable level. And I didn't question your intelligence - i questioned your response. However, there's no question about your arrogance toward those who don't happen to agree with your side of things. And just so you'll know, I only get a chance to watch Beck about once a week - but I never miss Bret Baier.
