Barack Obama Avenue

Sunday night I passed through St. Louis on I-64. Crossing the river into East St. Louis I noticed an overhead exit sign for Barack Obama Avenue. Usually stuff gets named for presidents after they are dead, or at least leave office. I guess President Obama's greatness precedes him. Kinda like getting the Nobel Peace Prize after being in office for less than 8 months. Is there a Miles Davis Avenue in East St. Louis?

Yep! Noticed that a couple weeks ago. Pretty crazy!

The only roads that maybe should be named that are the roads leading to the landfill and the sewage treatment plant.

Yeah, those are right there aren't they. I used to hang out at the old Union 76 truck stop there.

Some people can't wait for death or retirement before they celebrate their next savior/martyr.

In some cases it's extraordinarily quick. When Obama had been in office barely 100 days, the Webster Magnet Elementary School in Moot's backyard of St. Paul, MN changed it's name to the Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary School.

There are at least 13 schools now renamed after Obama. There are dozens of streets named after him, including one in Tanzania. There is a mountain in Antigua and Barbuda now called Mount Obama. There is a serious proposal to rename Midway Airport to President Barack Obama Airport. Honolulu International Airport is also a candidate.

There has also been disturbingly serious rumblings to rename Chicago's flagship O'Hare International Airport after Obama, but considering who O'Hare is named after, I can't imagine that ever happening.
