Bad Owners

I was recently let go by an Owner who was having problems probably due to a gambling or a crack problem, hell I don't know. When I started working for him he said that he likes his trucks to stay out 4-6 weeks at a time. I was on his truck for six when I got a real good paying load that brought me with in 3 hours of where I lived. So I figured this was probably as close as I was gonna get and headed home for some R and R. The Owner Mr Smith(NOT HIS REAL NAME)didn't like that idea and three days later called and said he needed his trucks on the move none stop and that if I wanted to continue working for him I'd better be back on his truck by tomorrow or else he'd start looking for another co driver for his 420lbs lead driver. Being the smart guy that I was I went to the truck and cleaned my stuff out and then told the fat slob of a co driver that had eaten all my food that I quit. I then called Mr Smith and told him the same thing he tried to get me to stay but I told him he $#@%ed up by threatening me with my job.

Sounds like you should have ironed out all the details BEFORE you signed on as to what home time was. That's why you get it in writing.... you should have known 6 weeks ago what his policy was, and what he liked. Did you talk to any of his other drivers? That's part of signing on with an owner. Every owner I ever talked to, or ran for, was VERY upfront with what they expected. And.. if an owner has a nice, expensive truck, (as you have mentioned, you drove a Freightliner Century Class 8) they have EVERY right to have in service requirements. If you don't like them, go to another owner! Just like, if you don't like a company! Don't whine, just go!


BTW... you seem to have a fixation on "fat drivers".. how does what someone weighs have ANYTHING to do with how they drive? And... your co-driver was willing to wait in the truck for 3 days, while you had your home time.. and you expect him not to eat the food? What about HIS hometime... just curious... seems to me, he was pretty darn accomodating to you, for you to be so intolerent and petty. I sure wouldn't have waited. I would never team drive, never have, never will...for just this type of situation.. but... if you chose to team... it would make sense to me, to only team with someone from your own area??? so you BOTH could go home?

The FACTS are... you and the owner had a different idea of home time arrangements.. leading to an arguement, and you quitting.

What you made this post... was an attack on the owner, personal insults as to his reasons for wanting you to run, and personal insults to your lead driver.

There's a REASON that 'fat slob' is the lead driver.. probably cause he does the job the way the owner wants.....and he's tolerent of the people he gets teamed with....

Dreamer, you must have me confused with someone else. First off the owner and I did iron everything out in the begining, from home time to how the truck would be run, and so on. He never gave me a say in if I wanted to team with this other guy he hired but I drove with him and didn't complain. The co driver Bill(not his real name)kept the truck in service and got a couple of loads in and round the state where I live while I was home so it wasn't like he was sitting waiting for me, we even worked it out that I was gonna do the same thing when he went home. But your right I should've gotten everything in writing, especially form an owner who carries his Bible around with him everywhere but never opens it up to read it. Hell you sound like the owner I worked for, accident free since '93, yea right.

However, just to verify the facts..

The statement is true, I have in fact, NEVER been in an at fault accident, .. but for the purposes of my sig.. I only claim since I received my CDL, in the spring of 1993, and started on my first Expediter job, Roberts Express, Unit D1115...an old Mitsubishi Cabover Extended Cab with a 24 ft box. No sleeper, just a bed behind the seat, and it beat me to death with the old spring suspension, but it would turn on a dime, and made a lot of money back in the hayday of expediting.. as many here can confirm... that was a good time!


This is something I am VERY proud of, and feel justified in being so. I don't make many brags, don't claim to be a bad man, don't challenge others to 'come get some', etc.. I let my record, and actions speak for me...


I would feel comfortable comparing my driving record, and driving skills, in a comparable vehicle, against any driver out there. I may not be the best, but I seem to get by...

I'm gonna let it rest now, I said my piece, you proved my point by judging me, so I'm gonna shut up before Lawrence kicks one of us off for personal arguements!

dreamer..very well said!!! i have no idea what that drivers weight has to do with his driving ability,also why does everyone assume an overweight person is a fat lazy slob who cant stop eating??? and b4 you start im 6'1 245lbs and "muscular" so im not a "fat slob" who's defending one!! i just think it's irrelevant and ignorant and goes a long way to show the type of hatefull disrespectfull person you are as do your comments about the gambling drug addicted boss!! the only thing i disagree with is the owner demanding you run the truck non stop. i feel if my drivers are out 4 to 6 weeks straight and runnin hard by all means come home and take a week off if ya need as long as your runnin hard the 4to6 weeks your out. just my .02
