If a driver fails a physical can he get Social Security disability? He would no longer be fit to work in his chosen profession.

If that were so, thousands of drivers would make repeated trips to the buffet, intent on earning a failed physical and collecting the check at taxpayer expense.

I see early retirement for many drivers in the near future.

In most states you need to be unable to do any gainfull work. That means if you have a pulse, would work if you could, dont want to be A parasite but because of a real condition you cannot work you dont qualify.

Now if you are a total human trash looser that made thier lifes mission to work the systeme, or you are of the right political profile the government is more than happy to support you.

"Hi, welcome to Walmart." "Hello, welcome to Walmart." "Welcome to Walmart." I suspect more than one practices for their next career as they drive down the road. :D

If circumstances dictate and life throws curve balls at ya....Some will have to be ummmmm.....More flexible...:p

HaHa, when I go to a buffet, truck stop or otherwise, I have noticed a large majority in attendance have been bellying up to the buffet for quite some time!

Back on topic, if you fail a physical, then I agree that you shouldn't be able to shop and try and beat the system, I am opposed to rules as much as the next person, BUT ones that relate to safety seem to be somewhat needed because as a society we seem incapable of making those choices without a rule to tell us so. Most rules come about in fact because of the lack of integrity by a few bad apples, that prompts some usually ridiculous rule to spawn and it continues until the life is choked out of the majority of the folks who would normally be pretty self regulating.

A common theme in our society is that rules don't apply to me, I mean if your Dr. tells you, it is no longer safe to drive due to *******, then most intelligent folks would not drive anymore, but we have become such a me-me-me state, that we automatically start to scheme on a way to continue driving anyway and then a new rule is born. Are we in the soapbox forum yet?

For so many, just having a regular physician that they see on a regular basis would be all they need. That's all most would need to keep their issues in check. Yeah, I get tired of hearing her tell me to lose weight, but, you know, she's right!

I'm thinking about drivers with borderline blood pressure. You can be fine in the morning but over the limit in the afternoon, or fine all day long until you suffer from White Coat Syndrome, where your anxiety and blood pressure rise when you are undergoing the physical exam. One number too high and you're off the road until you get another exam and it takes however long for those results to be recognized.
And on top of that, if you fail one day and are essentially suspended, and return the next day to get recertified, is your blood pressure likely to be higher or lower, as you sit there wondering if your career is in jeopardy? It's like the bogus sleep study cash grabs--how well are you going to sleep, already in unfamiliar surroundings in a strange bed, knowing that your career is in jeopardy?
