Oh well. So much for my venture into driving a rig.

Ok...so I got my liscence after attending school at MTC. However, I didn't report my incidents to Werner...always remember to report your incidents even if there were no police involved and you are only driving a cargo van...ie...like me. So werner fired me. Here I sit on my computer looking for jobs...Can't find any because now the school will not release my graduation certificate to any prospective employers and I am stuck here with a useless class A license. I guess I'll be driving a straight truck for Panther or back to driving my cargo van. Hopefully everything will work out fine, but just remember this; Even if you didn't have a class A before you had a job driving you have to report incidents too...even if they were in the parking lot and you weren't at fault....

First, WHAT?

Second, it isn't as useless as you think. I would be patient and look around.

Hang in there.

Shawn, why will the school not release your graduation certificate? Seems to me that if you earned it, your history of 'incidents' is irrelevant.

I'm confused as well. Is the school tied to Werner in some way?
I'm fairly sure that as a "professional driver" whether it's a van or whatever, the record reported to DAC. DAC would have all the information that pertained to your license. Even incidents that are not necessarily your fault are reported. By not disclosing that, Werner would look at it as falsification on the application.

I'm guessing Werner paid for the training, and the money for the training is now owed by the trainee, and must be received before the paperwork will be released?

Try US Xpress. Tell them the whole story, if the incident was not a preventable incident you should be okay. I filled out a application and forgot about a non preventable incident, and the safety dept. just called and told me I was leaving it out. After a minute I remembered getting backed into at a consignee's. Then I told them how it happened and they just had me re fax that part of the application and was good to go.

Well, I contacted the school and they explained to me that I was under contract (with the school) to go work for Werner. Werner disqualified me from employment. So I obviously don't have a contract w/ Werner according to the school, but I still have a contract with the school, and they aren't going to release my graduation certificate to any other trucking companies, so I basically have a "worthless piece of plastic". I was quoting a member of the financial aid dept at MTC. I have names but not naming any. I feel I'm going to have to contact my lawyer to get any kind of paperwork from them. When I called the school he stated "If you don't have a credit card number then I'm not interested in talking to you". What sucks is that I don't have the $ to contact a lawyer and I can't pay the school back if I can't get a decent job.....a catch 22 i guess. I tried US Express and didn't get a response from them.

Shawn, have you looked carefully at that contract, to see what it says about the possibility of your not being accepted by Werner?
If you are really stuck, perhaps pointing out the obvious to the school's financial aid person (you can't pay, if you can't get a job), will help. If that gets you nowhere, try filing for unemployment insurance - if they can help you get a job, by getting your records released, they'll be happy to do it, I bet. :)
Last, if you really need an attorney, try contacting a local university that offers a law program, because they will sometimes take on interesting cases, as 'practice' for the law students. (Overseen by faculty, of course, and no charge to you)
I think you're being cheated, and I hope you don't give up!

Very simple. They can't expect you to pay if they don't give you what you would pay for. If they won't work out a payment plan, here's what I'd do... forget about them. You have the experience in the rig. Find a tester in your area, have him test you, and go get your license. Should be a couple hundred bux.

You're better off not going with Werner anyways. I'll send you a pm.

The value received was the training, which I assume costs some $6000. The license itself is their only leverage. Can they not place you with another company who will cover the cost? Or can they not make a payment arrangement directly with you? The training, at least here, would count for 3 years experience for insurance purposes. Whether it worked out with Werner or not, someone still has to pay for the training you received.

I'm not telling you what to do because you are a grown man, but I would consider going to Maverick if I were you. One you are gonna make more than at Werner, and two they will get you home more often. Its just a thought.
