This auction is on History Channel tonight.
I first learned of this about 6 months ago...........Had planned on going if I could get away. About 3 weeks ago I finally made up my mind to go..........said what the Hell........haven't taken a few days off for a couple of years.......so why not.
Started calling around Pierce for places to stay........All Booked Up. OK........Started calling around Omaha.........then Lincoln.........Again...........NO Open Rooms anywhere whatsoever. OK.........Called Sioux City..........NOTHING. Every Hotel Room within a 100-200 mile radius was taken for this event. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that a Little Bitty Old Town Auction like this would have drawn the thousands and thousands of people that showed up there. News estimates were about 12-15,000 People showed up........
Hell..........all I really wanted was a bunch of that Nostalgic Memorabilia stuff there at the Dealership...........
I too ran across the Auction on History Channel. Barrett Jackson - Las Vegas was on Saturday night too.......As I was surfing during Commercial Breaks I come upon this. MY Gawd...........Like they said at one time during the Taped Show.............It DID look like the "Woodstock" of Car Auctions out there In that Nebraska Field!! Kinda Glad I didn't make the trip now.................
As far as pricing.............YES..........a LOT of that stuff went for STUPID STUPID Money!! I would watch a couple of Resto-Mods go across the BJ Block...........Cars that had $100,000 in it easily..........for $60,000............and then Flip Over to the History Channel and watch a Rusted Out Basket Case of the Same Car go at this Auction for $60,000 also. It was absolutely insane.........
And...........That Auctioneer.......her and her whole company were in WAYYYYYYY over their Heads with this event. Could have been run better...............
I hope to Hell that The History Channel...........and the Top Gear Crew...........NEVER NEVER NEVER ever cover another auction again. That was AMATEUR HOUR at it's finest. That was one of the WORST Auction Coverages I had ever witnessed ON TV. I have been to a LOT of Auctions in my life.........and seen a LOT of Auctions on TV...........and I just could NOT believe that someone there at The History Channel said..........."Yeah.....Go Ahead........Let's Put This On The Air".
