Average Weight

Hello everyone, this question might be for ST and T/T only since vans can only haul under 3k usually.

I was wondering everyone with ST and T/T in expediting even though you can haul lots of weight, what is the average you do, i know it all varies from person to locations to carriers..... So i was hoping to hear everyones individual average.

Thanks a bunch!

My ST will haul 14,000 cargo, but most loads are between 3000 & 6000 lbs

A lot of the loads we put on our straights are below 6000, but the heavier truck will still be a big benefit. Right now I have a straight double loaded coming out of Portland, OR with 2 6000 lb loads on board. We booked one of them Friday and another carrier got the other. Then when the shipper said the freight wasn't going to be ready until today, the other carrier bailed. We now have both loads on board our truck because he can handle the weight. We're making quite a bit of extra money on the deal, the broker is making more because we cut them a del on the second shipment since it's dropping along the original route, and the driver is coming out pretty as well. This wouldn't have been possible with one of those under CDL straights.

Ive had loads ranging from 1000-8000 so far between Oct 2011 and Now....Id say my average loads are 3000....most of the cargo isnt heavy but bulky....keep it comin 2012....and lets hope this fuel madness abates soon, Ive got Quote coming on an LNG truck..

Average [24 ft D unit] is around 5000 lbs. 'Larger' loads usually mean more size, not weight.
Now I'm curious: why do you ask?

I ran into a thread earlier that equipment was being discussed in, as to how the industry is changing and what equipment is fading out and what is most likely is gonna be more productive equipment, so i thought i'd ask what (other then vans) is everyone running now and on average what type of loads do they deal with in those C and D units.

So then is it rare in this business(expediting) that loads are above 30,000 pounds ? .... I mean do T/T then most of the time carry loads that Class 8 ST can handle (unless the loads dimensions are too long for the box ofcourse) ?

Actually I see quite a lot of TT loads, even a good number in the 40k range, but since we don't have anything larger than 24' I never mess with them.
