average time between call and load?

What would you say is the average amount of time given to you from the time your dispatch calls you and the commit time to pick up the load? I know there will be a lot of senerio's that will change this but overall what is the typical time window?

If we have said we are ready to go and the phone rings, and the money is right, about 2 seconds. Period. No scenarios. Period!!

Thanks for the reply, But I was asking is how much time do you have to get to the location to pick up the load? one hour? three hours? more? from the time you hang up the phone.

Say you were 150 miles from the next load. One hour wouldnt do it, but three would.

Also, say you were in the grocery store at home, you get a call but you need a couple of hours to get everything taken care of and get there. Do most loads have at least a couple of hours to pick up time from accepting the load? Thanks again.

I can say most reputable carriers give you enough time to safely drive to the pick up - whether it's ten miles from you location (60 minutes) or 120 miles (2.5 hours). There isn't generally much time after dispatch to stop and eat at the Waffle House.

Occasionally, you'll be offered a load with a pickup time many hours away - kind of annoying when you're awakened, lol, but dispatch calls when they book the load. On most, the time is calculated at 47 mph avg, at least at Panther. You will never be asked to do the impossible, but you will be expected to accomplish it on time, if it's possible.

Ahhh. Load acceptance to pickup arrival, that's what I read now I guess. Obviously, simply depends on distance, time of day, ferry, no ferry, yada, yada. You probably shouldn't be in service and be taking care of other agendas too far from the truck. Not a good thing. I would say to answer your question allow yourself 45mph divided by the miles. Should get you in the ballpark. Ya jes can't screw the pooch too much in this business, if shopping is an issue...do it round the corner. Some freight won't wait ya know.

If you've put yourself In Service, then definitely don't be tied up with "stuff." And never wander too far from your truck. It never seems to fail that load offers come when I'm busy with something else, ie. doing the dinner, my laundry, or......certain marital bedroom activities.

Most carriers expect you to be in the truck and moving within about 10 minutes. This includes your pre-trip inspection. They usually give you an adequate amount of time if their read on where you're sitting is accurate. If not given enough time you must let them know asap.

If delayed by traffic or weather, let them know asap.

Or sometimes they ping you with a load that needs to be picked up in 20 minutes... with p/u about 10 miles away... at 1700 in Atlanta.

Luckily the inner loop of 285 was flowing very well and we got to the pick-up and stop-off with time to spare and made it to the consignee with people still there to unload the truck even though it was 15 minutes after the time they said they would be there.

I could give you an average load time, but it wouldn't mean much b/c averages are generally crap. We've had loads that we get dispatched on 8-10-12 hours before hand, and sometimes we get them with 20 minutes to show up. But I've found with the panther folks if you keep them abreast of everything that's going on, they're fair.

And if they send a load that's 89 miles away, with a pickup time in 1 hour, don't even bother asking if you can borrow the stock car they sponsor - I tried that one already..:+

You mean the things we're driving aren't stock cars, man have I been lucky.

we get 90 mins for local pick up,less the time all the others turned it down,@10 mins per truck,but after you accept.pick up time will bump,so there wont be a late pick up.if 90 miles away,usually 2hrs for pick up,but you just have to talk to dispatch,as they dont want late pick ups
