How well do you remember this wonderful day?

I remember thinking - How the hell could this happen here?

It has not happened often enough. It NEEDS to happen now. NOT just King Putz the 1st, but the entire elected federal government and the Supreme Court. NONE of them should remain. They are a disgrace to the Nation, regardless of party. In other words, THEY ALL SUCK! Other than that they are as useless as dried, powdered turkey dung.

But what about then? What were your thoughts at that time?

I was 15, so you can imagine my priorities ;) .

I thought it was the only thing he could do. OTOH, I supported Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Nixon; getting over it was the best thing to do. There were other issues we needed to contend with in 1974.

Then? I was only concerned with providing for my wife and my self. I was a veteran who was refused work because of my military service. Crap going on in Washington was the LEAST of my worries.

ALL politicians can rot in hell for all I care. ALL of them, regardless of party.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember the relief when Nixon was finally convinced resignation was the right thing for him to do after all that had been said and done. I remember the integrity of Sam Ervin, Howard Baker and others from both parties working together to bring this mess to a successful conclusion. Compare this process with today's politicians, especially our current POTUS and his Atty General. The Watergate burglary and its subsequent cover up was small potatoes compared to any one of the number of scandals and cover ups that have happened under the administration of Barack Hussein Obama. The IRS scandal and its cover up by itself should be enough to force this grossly incompetent and corrupt POTUS out of office. Unfortunately the incompetence of our congressional representatives the corrupt leader of the Senate and the weakness of GOP leadership makes this impossible.

One last thought: for those who think Gerald Ford was bad, think about having Al Gore or Joe Biden becoming POTUS as a result of the impeachment process. Ford did the best he could under impossibly difficult circumstances, and we still got Jimmy Carter as the next elected president. I remember friends from GA saying Carter was a fool and a lousy governor; they couldn't believe he was the Democrat candidate. Obviously the rest of the country didn't know anything about him, other than he was the anti-Nixon. I remember the mess he made after winning the election on the theme of "trust me" and his big toothy smile.:D

In retrospect, Ford was the right person at the right time.

Unless you were a man who stood the line. Ford was a piece of stuff who I pray is rotting in hell where he belongs. He stood for the cowards who ran and sold out those who served with honor. He was crap. He is no better than Carter, Nixon, Clinton, Obama or Putin. They are all the same.

While Ford may have been out of his league in the oval office, the country needed healing and he was the right person to do it. IMHO of course.

You have your opinion, I have mine. All he did was slap everyone who ever wore a uniform right in the face. He did not "heal" anything. IMHO of course.

As everyone in the media enjoys trashing Nixon's memory once again, it's a bit annoying to watch this exercise in partisan politics take place considering the failings of the current POTUS - especially his lack of support for Israel. How easy it is for the MSM to forget or omit the fact that Nixon saved Israel when their backs were to the wall during the 1973 war with Arab armies armed by the Soviets. Compare his total commitment to our ally at that time with the derisive attitude Obama takes towards them now during their conflict with terrorists dedicated to their destruction.
In 1972, Yitzhak Rabin, then serving as Israel’s ambassador in Washington, was accused of taking sides in the US election after he told an Israeli radio station that no president in American history had been more committed to Israel’s security than Nixon.
Plainly Rabin had sensed something real.
The next year, when Israel Defense Forces were set back on their heels in the first days of the 1973 war and Prime Minister Golda Meir begged for American help, Nixon delivered.
Not only that. When he learned the deliveries were being bogged down by bureaucracy, he called in his secretaries of state and defense.
As Henry Kissinger read out the list of what was being sent to Israel, Nixon replied, “Double it. Now get the hell out of here and get the job done.”
He further made clear to the Israelis not to worry about weapons and ammunition: America would replace whatever they'd lost with even more advanced equipment.
“Whatever it takes,” he told Kissinger, “save Israel.”

Obama vindicates Nixon on Israel | New York Post

In spite of his anti Semitic outbursts - usually directed at American Jews who were his political adversaries - Richard Milhous Nixon stood behind his allies in Israel when it counted. Today Barack Hussein Obama engages in moral equivalency between them and Hamas terrorists while actively cultivating his own enemies list here at home.

I heard about this somewhat on Mark Levin's radio show last night. Nixon definitely had his flaws, and needed to be accountable for his misdeeds, but he was sharp as a tack on some issues.
All things considered he was a decent man.
