I suppose if you look at the way you do...

would you expect to be paid for your flat tire because you were running that customers load? Cost of doing business....besides tolls are tax deductable...BUT if they get paid YOU con NOT claim them....

Yes, a cost of doing business - but whose cost? I believe it's the shipper's cost. If a load involves significant tolls [Chicago to Philadelphia, Toledo to Boston, etc], the profit to the owner is significantly less, esp in a truck. It should be figured into the rate, IMO, because using the secondary roads will add significant transit time, which isn't going to be added to the run. We can do it fast or cheap, but not both at once.
Oh: the Pa turnpike is raising their rates again.

Not legally, but when did that stop some folks? :D

Flat tire, OVM? Not a good example - could easily be the driver's fault, same as many breakdowns, and the customer should not pay for that.

If they expect it toll road quick they have to pay me toll road money. If they only want to pay slow road pay they shouldn't complain when they get it in slow road time.

Yep, I would take it. Take 2 to I 76 then drop down route 11 south to US 30. Then back home for me. Lol

The last time I drove the PA. and IN. turnpikes I figured they should have paid me. They are both a miserable excuse for a road. A delay due to a flat tire or bent tie rod is a very real possiblity on these so called turnpikes.:(

If I have to pay for a road I expect it to smooth and well maintained and no construction delays...if this can't be met the toll for the day should be free!!!!

This same conversation took place in PA between Jeffman and me as some of our vital organs were being jarred loose on the turnpike in June. I am still unsure where my liver is...anyone at the Pilot in Morgantown, WV find a burgundy blobby thing laying out by the gas pumps...?

okay, get this. I worked for a big truck company which shall remain nameless because I don't want to admit that I worked for them.

when it came to tolls, my dispatcher said he would always reimburse chicago area tolls. For others, I was supposed to call in for approval before running them. he would consider transit time and then approve or decline.

but that was just during the day. after hours, I would call in 4 approval and the night or weekend shift couldn't approve or decline. they said I would have to talk to my regular dispatcher. I would point out that the load had to run before he got in in the morning, but they maintained they could not make that decision. so I would have to guess whether or not my dispatcher was going to approve the tolls and act accordingly. sometimes I guessed correctly, but other times I ended up paying the tools myself, and they were big truck rates.

so there were trips for which I submitted my toll receipts, only to have them declined. when I asked them to return those receipts so I could deduct them myself, they said they had already been thrown away.

anybody believe that? quite a little scam they have going there.

I always sent the company COPIES of my tolls. That way if the company doesn't reimburse them, I have the originals for my self to deduct at the end of the year.
