We will be working over the holiday. Not by choice. But out of desire to serve our Air Force.

Today we picked up two thrust reversers for one of their C-17 Globemasters. They are going back to be redone and then placed back in service on the waiting aircraft. The reverser acts as a braking device on each engine. The Globemaster is designed to land and stop on extremely short runways for the size and weight of the craft. Plus roll in reverse on its own eliminating the need for tugs.

The Globemaster is the workhorse of air supply movers for our military. To see these reversers actually working, watch the video on this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNRXAHasFvk. Watch the side of the engine when it lands. You will see the reverser slide open, diverting the thrust from the rear to the sides and out at a forward angle. This creates the braking action needed to stop the aircraft.

For an idea on how big the reverser is, the two rear crates on my deck are the reversers, The crates are 110" x 98" x 116" and the reverser just barely fits inside.

Without disclosing the actual location we loaded at, I can tell you there must have been 25-30 of these aircraft surrounding us. Totally awesome site!!!

Ever heard a C-17 take off loaded? Talk about a screaming banshee. Back in the 90s, I lived in Irvine, CA, before Clinton closed El Toro MCAS. They weren't flying all that low by the time they came over the house, but the were still way louder than any Boeing 747. The engine pitch was always very shrill.

I'm sure the paycheck was also somewhat of a motivating factor.

In any event, thanks.

GO AIR FORCE!

I was stationed at Dover AFB DE. One of the bases for C-5's. They also have a very distinctive sound. I now live in the flight path of Hunter Army Airfield GA. I can always tell when a C-5 goes over. Jerry Lee

I am at home today with a load on my van which delivers in McAllen,TX on Monday morning. So, yes I will be working on the Fourth of July as I will begin the trek south around midnight, tonight.

My wife and I have decided to take a low-key approach to July 4th this year. We normally have a large cookout at home for friends and family. Two events make this year different for us. First, my father-in-law passed away in April... and last week we got word our son is being deployed to Afghanistan as his Marine unit is being embedded with the Afghan National Army in the fight against the Taliban. This nine-year quagmire in Afghanistan has my stomach churning. Hope everyone has a nice holiday.

Looks like you get some pretty interesting loads. Our local National Guard here is getting ride of the F-16's and getting smome A-10 Warthogs

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The first replacement fighter jets have arrived at the Indiana Air National Guard base in Fort Wayne.

Four A-10 fighters landed at the base Wednesday as the military starts phasing out the F-16s now flown by pilots with the 122nd Fighter Wing.

Col. Chris Luithly says the F-16s are nearing the end of their lifespan and are expensive to maintain. He says the conversion to the A-10 Warthogs keep more jobs at the base.

The unit expects it will have about 20 A-10s when the conversion is completed.

Officials say more hangar space will be built at Fort Wayne International Airport to accommodate the larger planes
