International trucks on the road? I'm talking the class 8 tractor type. Are they making a comeback? Or have they never been gone?

It just seems that I am noticing more of them lately. International always had a high number of class 7's running around. But I don't remember the class 8's in the numbers I am seeing now.

Very aggressive selling going on to fleets. Pricing is really cheap (comparably) to FTL and Volvo right now. That new ProStar is also a very aerodynamic truck.

A lot of it has to do with who is running the company right now and the path International has chosen for 2010 emissions. They need to sell a lot of trucks now to bank emission credits as they won't have their 2010 engines meeting standards at the deadline.

Right now they are the #1 selling truck, and alot of fleets are buying them. They spent alot of time and research developing the Prostar and the Lonestar, even though the Prostar is becoming real popular right now.It is a real nice truck for the $$.I also think the Prostar would make a nice class 8 straight truck.

Read this article and see if you share my opinion that Navistar doesn't deserve business from O/O's . You might even tell the reps from Navistar at the show they shouldn't expect much business from the expedite industry because according to their James Hebe all O/O's will no longer exist in a few years . Trucking Faces Core Changes, Hebe Says | Transport Topics Online | Trucking, Freight Transportation and Logistics News . The statements by Hebe are not only highly insulting to O/O's but the carriers that use them , implying that carriers pay insufficient rates to allow contractors to survive running legally and that carriers safety departments ignore violations by O/O's .
To make Hebe eat his words O/O's should buy trucks made by PACCAR and Volvo/Mack and not be the fool Hebe plays you for , expecting you to buy a truck he admits will suffer in quality by being built by unskilled Mexican workers . The jobs losses and loss of freight caused by Daimler and Navistar moving to Mexico directly affect you . Don't put money in the pockets of people taking food off your table .

This may also be reflected in the drop in the resale value of the trucks coming off the line. I noticed a lot of fleet trucks in the west becoming cheaper in the last few months.

I think (oh' boy...)
that many are waiting for the 2010 SCR engines to hit the market next fall .
the 2009 platform is getting mild performance at best ,
and we all know that they are getting better fuel millage in Europe , using SCR .
if you are a fleet , will you be the last to buy a 6.5 Mpg engine ?
what if the SCR gets 7.5 ? , or 8 ?
will you still be in business 5 years down the road ?

I read in landline in 2010 you will still be able to get a cat engine in international class 8 trucks even though cat is not selling to anyone else. International is going to take the C-15 paint it blue put on their own fuel system and call it the Maxxforce-15. I guess this is because international is going to build the cat truck.

I couldn't have said it any better.

Thanks, Stitches but unfortunately too many in the industry , particularly the media value revenue from Navistar And Daimler advertising over concerns for American jobs and economy . If OOIDA truly cared about the members they would be the first to loudly voice outrage at Hebe's remarks about O/O's . They won't do do because it might affect their relationship with Navistar marketing . Over the past few years I have my comments quoted in several articles in "Overdrive" and "Truckers News " . I am no stranger to the editors of Randall Reilly . I wrote an editorial to "Overdrive" and the editor prepared it for submission then e-mailed me that "the owners" wouldn't allow it to be published . The American trucking industry is being sold out . Money talks and the deep pockets of Navistar and Daimler are more influential than the needs of American workers . OOIDA protests Mexican truckers . Are American truckers going to bring parts back and forth from Daimler and Navistar plants in Mexico ?
