(Try to) Fly United!

Sent from my iPhone using EO Forums

That's pretty funny, but am I the only one who thinks this guy got what he deserved? I mean, we all know that flights are overbooked and if they are no volunteers (who are compensated well) then they pick people at random. There were 4 people picked and the other 3 left without being dragged off. This guy thought the rules didn't apply to him.

Although if I was in charge I would have announced to the entire plane that this person has been bumped off the plane and since he refuses to leave, the plane will sit until he decides to move voluntarily. Instead of having a few security guards against him, turn the entire plane against him.

Absolutely 100% not this guy's fault.

United screwd the pooch big time and they will pay dearly for it. And I hope heads will roll also.

What did this guy do wrong? Nothing whatsoever. He purchased a ticket, showed up on time, was boarded, sat in his seat. See, United has one of it's biggest hubs at O'Hare, they had so many other ways to get their 4 employees to Louisville other than beat this guy up. They offered $400 vouchers for volunteers, nobody took it, they upped it to $800 and nobody took it. It was not worth it to anybody to waste 21 hours until the next day to catch the next United flight to Louisville. They should have upped the offer until someone would take it, let the free market rule. So what if it would cost them a few hundred dollars more? Remember, this crew moving thing was all United's problem. Why would you want to pawn your problem on your paying customer? There was also an American Airlines flight one hour later from Chicago to Louisville that wasn't full that United could have put its employees on and call it a day, or offered to put the 4 passengers on it instead of being offered the flight for the next day. How about rent an air taxi to take your employees to Louisville?

Interesting that one other passenger offered that he would step off the plane for $1600 but United's agent laughed in his face. This already cost them millions, and it ain't over yet. I bet that this event will be associated with United forever. I wouldn't be surprised if we would see a re-branding of United after these things settle down, more like ValuJet bought Airtran and re-branded everything to Airtran...

BTW, there are rules in place how to deal with an overbooked flight, which this was not (this was a full flight), and even if it was, it is dealt with before people board. But United boarded all passengers already. They also have rules that they can kick people off planes in safety situations, like the plane is overweight, or weather requires more fuel, etc, but this was not the case. Also they can kick off unruly passengers and usually the other passengers cheer and clap when they are removed. There was no one on this flight that agreed what United did was right. United had no legal right to remove this passenger. And even if they had the legal right to do it was it morally right to assault your customer? Oh, they did not do it, they called for the other bozos to beat him up for them. There was no law broken by this guy and those bozos called LEOs should be enforcing the law not do the dirty work for United.

But you know what irks me the most? The 'blame the victim' mentality. If he complied with their illegal request none of this would have happened. How about if United wanted to solve its problems (getting their employees to Louisville) just put some pocket change up and fix it without inconveniencing their customer who had nothing to do with their screwups? Remember, united made a few billions profit last year? Penny wise and pound foolish.

There was one time I was on a flight home from a work trip and they asked for volunteers, they offered a free round trip voucher for anywhere in the us, and since the next flight wasn't until the next day, a hotel room and dinner. I was going to stand up but I wasn't fast enough.

Sucks to see what happened and the CEO kissing butt but he was asked to leave and he didn't, thought that he was better than everyone else. The only person who did wrong in this situation was the guy who needed to be dragged out like a child.

No different than all the guys running the dually box trucks saying they are under 10k, they think the rules do not apply to them.

He bought and paid for a ticket. It wasn't his fault they overbooked. I'm sure if a flight was overbooked and you didn't show up for your flight they aren't refunding your money.

Dropped Friday morning in Portland, OR. Spent the weekend Seattle area, visiting family and friends. Nothing by noon local Monday, so headed for LA. Tuesday evening got the call, relocate to EP, TX. Now the only XPO unit here, time to rest.
That is some serious deadheading...:clapping-happy:

Did you get this load from ATL?

I did a shortie but fattie yesterday, then I did another one not too long that delivered in AL. I was going to go home but I got another call from ATL to Cattanooga for this morning.
Week ended for me but it wasnt bad at all.

About 90 miles deadhead home and OOS for 2 weeks. I'm flying to London for a little vacation, United ticket but operated by Air Canada. Does Air Canada beat up passengers also?
