Haven't updated my 5 since new. No problems.
It’s cool.
As the phone gets older it gets slower.
As the phone’s owner get older, they get slower.
If it’s at similar rates, who cares?

Oh and as an ancillary benefit ... folks upgrade their slower old phones.

I think it's a good point ...
Perhaps the variety of competitors in the marketplace.
Apple is the 1 company in the iphone market. No competition and brand loyalty.
If LG slowed down their phones I would imagine they would risk loosing business to Samsung, etc ..

My point was that it makes people upgrade their phones sooner ....
It matters. When people are holding onto their phones for 2+ yrs .. apple wants to nudge their customers to upgrade to the latest new model.

iphone users tend to stay iphone users. Brand loyalty is HUGE for apple. Translation for slow expediters ..... there is no competition for Apple loyalists. It's an iphone or nothing ...

That's the whole point. This isn't an argument over which platform is better. The fact is many people don't switch platforms. iphone users stay iphone users. So if Apple were to slow down their phones intentionally they wouldn't risk loosing many customers. Their customers would be more prone to upgrade rather than switch platforms.

I have a iphone 4. It won't upgrade so I'm unable to download any apps. Anybody have same problem? Took it to verizon store and they confirmed. Only way to download apps is to purchase new phone.
