This is what happens when you have someone in a position that has a limited background. She was with Maryland Transportation for eleven years. In my opinion, a very limited exposure to the trucking industry. As mentioned, we will see if she is listening. Nothing about being cynical.
"Watch what they do, not what they say".
Hopefully Bob & Linda can talk some sense in to her.

Everytime you tell a driver ,or a kid, NO, doesn't mean you didn't listen.

That may be true but it neither does it mean that the person saying no understands or cares about what was said.

I saw Linda and Bob this afternoon and we discussed this very topic. I completely respect and applaud their efforts to build bridges and work with the FMCSA. I think we need to continue to pursue this route.

But, with that being said I explained my view that they were pandering more than listening. I have sadly found as president if TEANA that what they listen to mostly is the federal courts and that is why we are leading we are part of leading a second lawsuit against them. Sadly I think the true agenda is more politically based than anything else.

I still salute them for their efforts. Hopefully a combination of approaches can get us to a place where safety and science can meet for the TRUE benefit of drivers, safety and the motoring public.

In a different context, something Dreamer said [and I'm paraphrasing, but the gist is the same] applies: 'If all I say is ugly, why would anyone listen?'
Why would Ann Ferro [or anyone in authority] listen to the kind of comments posted above?
We sure can be our own worst enemy, sigh.

You are making the very incorrect assumption that they are listening to people playing along. If and I am in no way making a threat but if politicians were in fear of the people, they would listen.

John i applaud you as well, but the problem we have now is that Judges are making up the rules as they go, instead of elected public servants.
it's a risky road as well.
them Judges are appointed officials just like any other bureaucrat {FMCSA included}
IMHO the better road to take is communicate with congress, it's a long up hill battle, but it can be done.
Cheri, poeples are mad as hell, not because they are been ignored, but because some are loosing everything do to those new regulations.
{and anyone that think that this will effect rates - lives in Lala land}
what will be the right respond to a self proclaimed bureaucrat that wipe your financial future for no seamed rezone?
you think expedite is bad ?, visit some of the ICC's blogs, the ones that really going to be effected, go there, and see what MAD is all about.

As a clear reminder, it wasn't that long ago we went through this with the last HOS changes. Tons of hearings and comments from the industry only to be largely ignored.
Fast forward to today, it appears to be just a repeat of a past performance.
Lots of hearings, opinions, and comments only to be ignored once again.
That is the very reason you are seeing the comments that you do.
Like all things government, this is all driven by political and financial gains outside of the transportation industry.
Safety is the last thing they are looking at unless it is by consequence.
As usual....."Just follow the money".

I know why you're angry, and I'm pretty angry too - mandating EOBRs without addressing the issues of detention and parking may put me out of business, thanks to the revised split sleeper rule, and I have submitted comments to FMCSA on the subject. Like thousands of others, and we are being ignored.
I get all that. But calling Ann Ferro a lot lizard, hoping something heavy will fall on her, etc, makes it much easier for the officials to disregard what we have to say.
The least we can do is stop giving them more ammunition to shoot us with.

Moose I agree. We all also help fund a lobbyist on capital hill as another part of our fight. I agree about the judges. But a BIG part of the problem is the FMCSA is supposed to work for congress. They seemed to have forgotten this and choose or think they can legislate on their own.

It wouldn't be my style to refer to her as a "lot lizard" but if they aren't listening, probably doesn't matter what is said.

Congress likes it that way, they get the bribe money and to convince gullible voters to put them back in office one more time because they are listening and they will fix it.

It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.

We don't need to give them any ammunition. They already bought a billion or so rounds to take care of us with. Ferro is part of that same administration.

They do what they want regardless of any "ammunition" we give them. The deaths hit lows one year but they kept on marching forward with more regulations because they believe they are untouchable and don't have to listen. If a bunch of people showed up with pitch forks and torches to that walk instead of a bunch of political pawns telling her it is nice to see her she might have a healthy fear. We know beyond question that your idea of what we should be doing is a complete failure, it is time to find another way. It might mean protests, lawsuits against individual DOT officers, or some group getting real power.

P: I honestly have no idea what we should be doing, except that talking smack like 12 year olds isn't it.
In a political climate that reveres the job creators and considers labor [and that's what we are, in the eyes of the politicians] disposable, there aren't many good options for us.
BTW: I walked with Ann Ferro, but never got a chance to say a word. That might be a good thing, though, because I'm not ready to hang up the keys just yet.

There are LOTS of options, most are too scared to exercise them. Humoring them gives them more power. They should be shunned and ignored. Taking part in their "dog and pony shows" feeds their power over us.

They need the fear of the people put back in their minds. When their first thought is of the people instead of the corporations, we will see a better America. The whole idea of playing their games means we will always lose, when something different is done we will get a different result.
