Phil: as THawk clearly stated that he was just guessing, why would you get so acrimonious, suggesting that he's implying knowledge the rest of us don't have?
Because the implication is also clearly made, and to this reader, the implication is more convincing than than the qualifying statement of "just guessing."
The implication is consistent with other posts made by the writer. It is a common theme among some in the political spectrum. It frustrates the dickens out of me (thus my getting acrimonious) because the theme (my source of truth is better than yours) blinds people to the facts and interferes with good analysis.
While clarity is of course preferred, reality is often clouded with numerous conflicting facts. Suggesting or assuming you have a REAL knowledge of the truth keeps you from grasping more of the truth than you otherwise would.
The financial crisis is worldwide, huge and complex. It consists of financial, political, moral and other realities all jumbled together. It cannot be easily explained or understood.
By the way, "conventional wisdom" is also frought with conflicting guidelines. Example: "He who hesitates is lost." vs. "Look before you leap." When faced with a decision to act or not act and how soon or lat to do it, you can tap into these time-honored conventional wisdom slogans to support any belief you care to create.
So too with selecting your source of truth over other sources that may or may not be just as good. The minute you lock onto one, the more likely it is that you will miss other truths that would help you understand what is going on around you and what you can and should do in a given set if circumstances.
You might notice that I don't share REAL truths here in the open fourm. I share my views. I don't claim to be a real expediter or a real truck driver. There are things about life and work and God and family and money and America and women and expediting and myself that I used to believe were true that I now know are not true. Based on past history, there is a very high probability that my beliefs will continue to change as I age. If I can't figure out the truth for myself, it is certainly not my place to impose a truth on others.
Sharing views is one thing. Claiming that your truth is better than other people's truths is the height of arrogance. I know THawk said "IMO" and "just guessing." It is the REAL that set me off. Taken with other posts, it strikes me as saying my truth is better than yours.
