...and yet, a few years ago, a white student who was born in South Africa was disqualified from a school competition for an award for African-American students, in favor of black students who have never been to Africa in their lives. He was probably the only African-American in the whole school.

I think this goes to illustrate another issue, the promoter of the pageant is out there just to make a buck and does not care either way who won.
The other thing it illustrates is the level of intelligence among the competitors to continue to compete with a foreign entry.
Obviously the esprit of the contest was to find America's teen, not the world's teen and having such a rule I think could be something for a stupid ambulance chasing lawyer to take the case and sue the p*ss out of the promoter for it under some stupid law for somewhat of false representation of the rules.
Pageants are money scams and a form of child abuse anyways, I mean most of this crap is the parents living through the kids which sometimes leads to undue pressure on the kids to perform for the parents.

As soon as Limbaugh gets a hold of this story it will be represented as such; President Obama and his minions must have gotten to the judges and pulled some Chicago Style strong arm tactics and bought the judges votes.

My wife's niece and a friends daughter went through this crap, it was great to put such time and effort into the shows with nothing to show for it other than some dumb trophy and a claim you were miss picklepuss of 1995 or miss cheesehead of 2003.

Personally I think it's silly stuff but I guess it is no different than the over zealous baseball or football parents. Like you said, "the parents living through the kids". It takes all kinds.....
