Anyone have a 15 foot Aercell on the GM DRW 10,000lb GVWR chassis with a 6.0L engine?

If yes, could you tell me what the empty weight of that combo is excluding the driver, personal items and fuel (less than 1/4 tank)?

You know that is a good question, but why not a full tank of gas?

Hmm , maybe he wants the empty weight to stay under 6,000 to be able to use the mileage deduction for taxes . If the empty weight is close a full tank could add a couple of hundred pounds . As for the dealer add they are just giving the weight range of a Class 2 truck . Isn't a Class 1 up to 6,000 lbs. gvwr ?

i talked to a woman at ubicell recently. she said if you wanted a ddrw rated at 9990 you would have to spec the chassis from the mfg'er. evidently nothing off the shelf. she further told me the box for the SRW at 12' wheighs 2150# and the 15' at 2450. maybe this needs to be a reversed engineered process. both wi a roll up door. do the barb doors weigh more? i do not know.

You are talking about the Aerocell SRW or a box for an Single Rear Wheel chassis?

it was like pulling teeth with them to tell me the weights of their products and after I explain to them what I wanted to do (have a refit done with their product) they said I had to order new from the manufacture.

those are weights for the drw 12 and 15ft boxes. i brain faded. this is with the roll up door and no ramp or liftgate.

She's right. But why do you need a 9990 gvwr. The law concerns anything over 10,000# which means 10,001 and higher. Both Ford and GM offer DRW cutaways with 10,000# gvwr and that would accomplish the goal of not logging or having a DOT medical card.

Sorry folks, I have been out on the road and in places where a high speed connection was not available.

Yes, GM and Ford both offer a dual-rear wheel chassis with a 10,000lb GVWR and your assumption that I am going to stay under a 10K GVWR is 100% correct.

Curb weight of the DRW chassis, plus the 15 foot cargo box weight, does not leave me with a 3000lb load capacity.

I can get there with a SRW, but I would only have 28 inches of bunk space behing the seats, because that box is shorter.

Basically, the DRW will not work because the load capacity is too restrictive and the SRW will not give me enough bunk space.


Back to the drawing board.

My 2004 17ft aerocell with 1/2 tank,and me not in it[I weight 250]scaled at 7820lb.This is a g3500 dual rear wheel,12000gvw truck.It has been recerifited to 13950 by spring and other approved by dot modifications.This was so when at running weight I could haul 4000lb.This weight empty did include the sleeper wall,and a super heavy "forklift" rear bumper with a built in class 4 hitch.Also it has a 3in southern yellow pine floor,and roll up door.It all added to the empty weight.It is about to traded in on a small "c" dock high.more on that later.I will add,one of the big reasons is the fuel filter is part of the pump,the centerbearing on the drive shaft is NOT replaceable requires a whole new shaft,the dual idler arms have no part number,were recalled ,but only under 100,000 miles and 600$ for a engine miss that I then fixed for 25cents.

I am curious Dragonrider, how do you get a recertification when the only one who can do that is the manufacture by law?

An upfitter can put a final weight to their sticker but the numbers can't exceed the GVW from the manufacture.

As I explained once before.Just as you can have a tag axel put on a 33gvw and change it to a 53,\.A certifided chassis/spring shop CAN up grade a truck.This is what I did,and was legally allowed a different gvw.Now this is not to say that they could take a 8000gvw and up grade to 12000.I have a 15000 gvw rear axel/bearing/studs nut etc under the truck,it is the same as the "new" g4500.They changed the springs and the tire size to do this.I have spent 34 years in auto truck,was ASE certified master tech in auto and truck,with teaching certificate.I have not taught in a number of years ,which is why my spelling has gone to h+++.LOLHopefully this time you understand it
