Aero Wheel Covers

Real Wheels has been experimenting with wheel covers for the wide base rims and they have finally perfected the mounting brackets. The wheel covers will not rub on aluminum wheels which was a big concern.

We had clear Aero Wheel covers on our wheels during the MATS truck show, but we took them off as we wanted white solid covers.

We will have our white wheel covers on for the Expo and I hope we will have had them on long enough to have run through a few tanks of fuel.

Henry Albert is running them on his truck if you want to see a picture of what the aluminum ones look like:

Bjorn from Real Wheels will have a booth at the Expedite Expo to show and talk about many styles of wheel covers they have.

Real Wheels is offering a 10% discount if anyone is interested in them now.

I've got two sets now - not this brand.

I didn't see an issue with rubbing on the wheel with either of them when I fitted them on the wheels.

One is a vinyl cover over a frame which is what I understand is used by a few companies and the other is spun aluminum which can be polished that have dzus fasteners to attach it to a frame.

By the way here's the link to Realwheels

Greg are you running wide based singles now? Thanks for providing the link I forgot... multiply that .5 out on the fuel savings and yes it is a big deal.

OVM smoothing out the sides of the box so as not to create any vacuums is where we are heading so we can continue to improve our fuel mileage.

.5 is huge on a tractor..and pretty good for a straight...that equates into thousands of dollars saved at the end of the year....could make the diff between succeeding and failure.

In a hot sunny day you'd wish having those turbulence's around the wheels and breaks .
one thing alloy wheels do better then steel ones is heat displacing,
( which is why steel wheels are white painted.)
ever wondered why the inner side of an Alloy wheel have holes in it ?
if the tire warms up,
those covers actually increase fuel consumption,
and decrease tire life.

the other problem with those kind of products:
they find it's way into the regulations book.
i'd expect Aero to be mindful of it's costumers, and say it out loud, on their website and at the Expo booth, that they will NOT apply to be a part of Smartway, nor any CARB related mandate.

They looks great tho'w,

The holes in wheels are called Hand Holes or Access Holes to get to the Valve stem and another reason is to make the wheel lighter. The holes having nothing to do with cooling.

Black actually dissipates heat better than white. Not many people like black wheels with a black tire.

A wheel cover could make a wheel bearing run hotter but less than a top hat would.

Smoother is smoother is smoother and the wheel covers keep turbulence from forming around the wheel.

You are right they do look good!

.5 mpg sounds high to me for some reason. Wouldn't every fleet have them if this were true?
Their website claims 1 to 3 percent.
